This LSU baseball team exceeded expectations!

This team lost 8 starters from last years team. At one point it looked like they might not even make the SEC tournament. They learned how to win with solid pitching and timely hitting and became a TOP 8 seed.
This weekend they ran into a better version of themselves. CCU created and took advantage of every opportunity and kept the pressure solely on LSU. LSU was not able to capitalize in key situations like they had during the last half of the season.
With that being said, it was extremely frustrating watching the games this weekend. But if you had told me that after the first 2 weeks of conference play that LSU would host and lose in the Super Regional I would have taken it.

Honestly it did. I am excited for next year. We need some pitching to step up, but we should be a pretty good team.

We were preseason #4 and finished outside the top 8. Yet exceeded expectations?

We are always rated extremely due to name brand.
No reason why anyone would rank a team Top 5 after losing the entire starting lineup minus 1 guy.

Preseason polls are more of a reflection of where the teams finished the previous season.

I don't think any rational person expected LSU to make it to Omaha in 2016. I think most viewed Regional host (top 16) as a reasonable expectation, so being a national seed (top 8) exceeded the expectation of most. 2017 will be a different story. Notice a trend in odd --numbered years?
2012 - season ended in Super Regional
2013 - Omaha
2014 - season ended in Regional
2015 - Omaha
2016 - season ended in Super Regional
On another matter - how disappointed are other SEC fan bases today after not meeting expectations?
Texas A&M - this was "the year" with a senior laden team.
MS State - regular season SEC champs
2012 - season ended in Super Regional
2013 - Omaha
2014 - season ended in Regional
2015 - Omaha
2016 - season ended in Super Regional

They did exceed. That's all we can really ask of them.

This team overachieved alot. Had talent but lacked experience. Had some magic late in the season but ran out of it these last two. This season will be remembered for questionable coaching, edge of your seat games, and the rally possum. Onto next season.

Yes. Ppl that are down on this team for losing this Super Regional had unreasonably adjusted their expectations when LSU went on the Rally Possum streak.
Expectations are everything. Thats why I always defend PM and always destroy Less Smiles. PM usually meets expectations or exceeds them. This year is a great example of exceeding. Less Smiles takes top 5 recruiting classes and coaches them down to #18-#23 or so by the end of the season.
Honestly. Whens the last time LSU football exceeded expectations?

They certainly did in my eyes. and they should in everyone's eyes.
But I will say this. At what point do we judge the team based on what they become/are vs what we expected them to be in February? You can't help but feel disappointment with only 1 Omaha win with 5 straight national seeds. I thought we'd go to Omaha this year based on the team we became.

Thats always the question when it comes to expectations. My take is that a lot of work is done in the offseason and a lot of reflection takes place that builds the overall character of the team. During the season guys get into bad habits or slumps. The work in the offseason is supposed to temper the team against these flaws so they dont show during the season when it counts. To me that means that the expectations in Feb are the real ones.
If your expectations rise during the season based on in-season growth, save it for the following season.

If Poche stays and either Latz or McKay materialize into what they were advertised then our rotation will be tops in the SEC

Baseball is all about bunching offense together. We could not do that last night.
Look at CCU's last at bat. That little bearded chain hobbit did what lead off guys are supposed to do - he got on base. He then stole second. At that point, all it would take is one good hard hit to the outfield on the ground and the game was over, and that's exactly what happened.
Our guys got on base, and then hit infield popups, struck out, etc.
I still think they should be tested for PEDs, though. Unreal power hitting - not just in home runs, but also, just flat smacking the ball in places.

Lack of experience was the main reason, they came up empty too many times when the bases were loaded.
