The powers that be (bowls & college presidents) are full of shite. Now they play 12 reg season games, conf championship game, and a bowl game. So playing extra games was never a concern for players safety it is all about money. Do away with conf championships and go back to a 10 or 11 game reg season with playoffs.

I agree with all of this, and I'm not anti-playoff for college football. I just don't think we need one that includes 16 or more teams. I know some people think the "watering down the regular season" excuse is a fallacy, but with 16 teams, that argument definitely starts becoming valid. Last year, 9-3 Northwestern finished #16 in the Coaches poll, and 10-2 Utah State finished #16 in the AP poll. I just think including such teams in the final hunt for the national championship is asinine.

I've always been on board with the 8 team playoff. I've heard multiple variations of how such a playoff would be structured, but my favorite is taking the 5 champions of the SEC, ACC, Big-10, Big-12, and Pac-12 plus 3 at-large teams with any team finishing in the top 6 getting an automatic bid.

I don't need a playoff to see FSU, Oregon, Bama, Baylor run through our Swiss cheese defense.

Better than some stupid shite like March Madness where you barely even need to be .500 to get a shot.

I would be for that. As i stated earlier i think we would finally see match ups that we never see. LSU vs Michigan or Ohio St,etc.

The bowls used to have some meaning and tradition but now that 70 teams make a bowl game they are just stupid. Why should a 6-6 team make a bowl game? If I am not mistaken a few teams have gone with losing records.

Sorry man, but I like the BCS system as is. It is the best chance we have to see #1 vs #2. You do not get this with the NFL, MLB and especially not NBA. 4 team playoff is next best. Anything more than this is dilution of good football. Sorry that you are an idiot.

I agree with this as well. Way too many bowls. Should be 15-20 bowls AT MOST.

But the dilution and over-commercialization of the bowls and the arguments for a playoff are two separate issues in my mind.

NCAA makes exceptions if losing a conference championship game puts you at 6-7. UCLA went 6-8 the other year because of it.

The chance to beat Bama & A+M is "nothing to play for"? You & I feel very differently about the game of football.

A college football playoff would be nothing like March Madness. To compare the two is asinine.

i think it should be a six team playoff, top two BCS teams get a buy, 4 is not a enough and 8 is too many...that puts 3 SEC teams in just about every year, then Oregon, Fl ST and one extra.

Problem with that format is that you could NEVER convince me that #1 and #2 are so much better than #'s 3 through 6 that they deserve to have a free pass to the next round.

If we're talking about a playoff with more than 8 teams, then byes would be OK.

Half the idiots on the board think we're terrible with a retard for a coach but think we deserve a shot at a national title???

We aren't terrible, but we don't deserve a shot at the national title this year. Could we win a playoff? Sure. But we wouldn't deserve the shot.

NFL/NBA/NHL/WNBA all say hello. That is like saying a 1-loss team shouldn't be allowed to win the title Where do you draw the line? SOS? How "good" a loss was?

I'm sure you can admit we could probably beat 6-7 teams that are ahead of us if given the opportunity. That is what makes the playoffs such an intriguing part of the experience.

I say give the bowl games to the top 10 teams in the nation. 1 plays 2 for the BCSNCG and then 3 plays 4, 5 plays 6, and so on and so forth. Outside of the top ten, well, better luck next year.

well many of the traditionalist complain that the bowls are what makes cfb and don't want to lose them to a playoff. How can we do away with the Rose bowl blah blah blah...well to me the bowls are tarnished because of all the bowls we have now. i remember in the 80's going to a bowl meant you were a good team...not true now

sorry but NBAs 7 game playoff ensures the best teams get in. anybody can get lucky on one game. The more games the more truth. Everybody knows the regular season is one thing, but playoffs are on a totally different level and are a better indicator of truth. It's why teams and players are defined by playoff success.
