I was pretty sure they would be a pitching powerhouse with poor hitting.

they are hitting pretty darn good (except with runners on yesterday). sure they need to get more timely hits but I think we're much better at the plate than I thought we'd be.

the pitching? who the hell knows what's happening right now. I have questioned Dunn's value before and got slammed but I still question it. we've had enough games now and I see a lot more to concern me than Lange's control issues. frankly, when he couldn't throw his curve for a strike yesterday I thought PM should have yanked him. it is not unusual for a player to struggle with one pitch but the guy needs that curve to be effective. this entire year has got me nervous with our guys on the mound. my only theory centers around the mental aspect of pitching. the only thing I got is that Dunn has got into these guys heads with too much technical shite. the ole "paralysis by analysis" thing. like a golfer that overthinks so much he can't hit the ball. Dunn came from the pros and maybe these guys are not ready for that yet.

these are not knocks (expect the part about PM); only observations. but I am knocking our base running. i'm tired of seeing this team make the first out at third base and do stupid shite like Jordon did yesterday trying to stretch a single into a double when the situation clearly did not call for it.

it's a long season and I really do think we have the talent to improve a lot and end the year with a solid club with a lot to look forward to. my goal is to be competitive enough to earn a regional host (or at least make a regional).

If we don't make a regional... It's a failure. That means we're not in the top 8-9 teams in the sec. There is no reason why with the money, facilities and emphasis we put on baseball to ever fall out of the top 6 in the conference.

He's been coaching for years, it's never been an issue before. Hitters aren't chasing Langes curved anymore, he has to show he can throw it for strikes.

we all knew it was gonna be a long season, bama's arms had the best ERA in the SEC this season.

I can see this but when you have to replace 8 full time batters you should cool your expectations a bit. imo, a regional is about all we can hope for. that is, unless our pitchers (the one's struggling) reestablish their game and we start getting timely hits. oh, and learn how to run the damn bases.

man, you are so right. the hitters have adjusted; now it's time for him to readjust.

I tried to prepare everyone what to expect last December....

'This is baseball, and it's a long season. I was discouraged by last night, but we've seen this before, even from some of LSU's championships teams. The lack of hits with RISP was very frustrating and Bama didn't exactly tear the cover off of the ball, they just had clutch hits and good "baseball fortune" as Skip would say. I swear, on that homer last night, the wind was howling in right before he hit it, died as the ball left his bat, then gusted in again about 3 seconds after it cleared the fence.
Despite dropping these two games, I actually have more confidence due to the fact that some of these freshman are producing earlier than I expected. I really like Duplantis.

Is this overreaction Sunday? Let the kids play and figure this out. To expect this team to jump in and start sweeping/taking series right off the bat is absurd. April and May will tell the story.

Please stop being so sensible, Adam. You should know by now your type of thinking is not appreciated on this board....

Couldn't agree more, Lange and Poche will work their issues out. This line up has a lot of kids who while talented have not seen SEC caliber pitching, they are talented and will adjust as the season goes on. It doesn't help that the first taste they got came against the best staff in the league currently.

This team was never going to be a top 8 national seed.

Absolutely. This team is very young and mostly inexperienced. It's going to take some time to develop the mental toughness they're going to need.

As for pitching. Sometimes guys just get into a rut. They have to work their way out of it. It just so happens that both Lange and Poche have found themselves in one at the same time. Yes, it's a bit frustrating. But they'll figure it out, eventually.
