Paul Finebaum said this week there is nothing different about LSU this year. Wrong! The coach is very different. The OC Steve Ensminger is very different. The quarterback is different. He can actually throw the long ball with accuracy. Which makes the entire offense different. No longer can teams put 8 or 9 in the box to stop Fournette. Etling isn't the best QB in the SEC but we don't need him to be the best. We just need him to be good enough to keep the defense from putting 8 or 9 up front to stop No. 7. If they don't stack up up front, Fournette will get his yardage. This ain't Les Miles offense any more. It's Coach O's and it will be good enough to beat Bama Saturday.

To be honest Etling doesn't throw the deep ball as well as Harris. But this obviously isn't the only barometer to playing the QB position well. Decision making, accuracy on short to intermediate routes, and pocket presence are his strong points.

Harris actually did this better than Etling.

Harris had a pretty deep ball and he threw a great end zone fade. Unless the o-line plays better than they did last year it won't be any different. It doesn't matter who is calling the plays if bama's dline is two yards in our backfield every play.

I don't mind him dinking and dunking all day, moving the chains and managing the game. I like how he works the pocket and has composure.

Its way more important that he can hit the broadside of a barn from inside it on the shorter routes, IMO, unlike his predecessor.

except bama didn't stack the box to stop Fournette last year. that's right, their front 7 stopped him and also didn't give BH time to pass either.

simply put, our OL was man handled by their DL.

finebaum said this week, when talking about miles getting another coaching job, said that he wasn't likely to get a top job, noting lsu got better immediately when he was fired. Booger seconded that sentiment.

I think what he meant was that we've got the same players and talent. but he did acknowledge that we're better.

Etling isn't as good at the deep ball as Harris. Alabama has not stacked 8 or 9 in the box to stop LSU in the past.

Finebaum is still wrong of course (I'm pretty sure it's part of the definition of the word "Finebaum"), but not for the reasons you cited.

Short quick passes will nullify any pass rush.

That's true, but their safeties were running down hill as soon as the ball was snapped.

I do agree though , the Oline needs to have a better performance tomorrow and I'm pretty confident they will !

Exactly. It like a boxer who fought the first fight in handuffs. This time the cuffs are off and so are the gloves!

No he can't.

But he manages the offense well and makes plays. That's all you can ask for. Tomorrow nite I hope he plays his best game of the season.

o be honest Etling doesn't throw the deep ball as well as Harris.

Harris could launch it, but wasn't at all accurate. He would just launch a jump ball. Etling can make the short throws which is all out Oline and RBs need to make the defense play honest and open the run.
