"Fresh off a decisive 29-9 Citrus Bowl victory over Louisville, LSU nation is riding high, as it well should be. But after going back through the tape, it’s clear that the win wasn’t as decisive as the scoreboard — or even the stats — say it was."

"What I mean when I say the win wasn’t as decisive as we think is simple: LSU won because of the way it shut down Louisville’s passing attack. That’s it. LSU’s offense might’ve played its worst game since Alabama (more on that later) and the run defense honestly didn’t play up to its potential either."

Is this real life?

Yeah all we did was shut down the heisman winning QB that averages more yards per game on his own than most offenses do.

We don't deserve it. Give it to the team that barely got past their own 20

It's like the author was coined to write an article about LSU but couldn't say anything positive without 4 negatives first.

Im pretty sure that was the game plan. They knew UL had a decent D especially inside.

clever analytical strategy...take out LSU's best plays (sacks and long Guice run), and we statistically weren't that good.

many of his bigger runs came at the end of the game when the outcome was already decided

so, no.

referring to Jackson here

Almost sounds like some of the tRant posters here.

He is right about the offense. Guice didn't really have a great game. He busted that long one, but before that, he had been held in check. Louisville does have a good rush D though.

And Etling was very erratic. He was bailed out several times by Dupre. It was pretty frustrating game to watch the offense.

The defense was incredible though.

If you look past about 15 great plays and change the way some stats are compiled, LSU wasn't that impressive. That is the short version.

yeah...he kinda disingenuous for him to take away all of LSU's sacks and big runs to make a point

but to not take away any of Louisville's sacks or large gains

So when Jackson scrambles for a positive gain, it's rushing yards. But if he's tackled behind the LOS (even when scrambling and looking to run), it's a sack and doesn't decrease his rushing total?

The author should have done his analysis where he takes 20 LSU points off the board and then he could have rationalized a Louisville win.

I always get a good laugh from these 23 year old web writers who try to break down film and analytics like they are a coordinator.

Yes, but its been that way all year, and we still moved the ball and scored when we needed to and then some. But I agree, Etling is really not very good. He can be inconsistent on his throws, but we can ill afford his interceptions.

This. It was certainly one of the best efforts all year. And if the defense has only played average, the offensive poor play would have made it a very tough game, instead the defense allowed it to be comfortable, fairly easy win.

Every college football game could be analyzed similarly. I bet if this writer looked at the OSU-Clemson game, he would conclude that OSU had a chance to win. Flawed logic

That isn't some seriously dumb arse shite, and he's just trying to be edgy and original. Proof of that is found in his wanting to give the MVP to Godchaux or Bower over Guice
