Fine line from playing in seccg two years in a row (which was 1min away from doing) and being team on the decline....

I'm gonna take the optimistic POV and believe that losing as many guys as we did to NFL has taken its toll.

The most concerning thing to me is that I can't remember the last time lsu played its best ball in November. Maybe 06?

And, I know the other backs played pretty well that night, but there is no reason Hill should only have 16 carries in that game.

I think it was actually last year. The high water mark for quality of play in 2012 was at home in the loss to alabama.

Only 2 penalties. At least the team has been more disciplined as the year goes on.

The only thing I'll point out is that those rushing numbers are little skewed because we gave up 30 yards on sacks. Our RBs were averaging well over 4 yards a carry againt Ole Miss. That's why Mett's interceptions were so costly. We were moving the ball on the ground and he just needed to protect the ball. Instead, he was overagressive and bypassed wide open receivers in the underneath coverage to attack the deep middle third into double coverage.

I love Mett, but his 1st half play is the biggest reason for the loss.

You have to get the other team off the team on 3rd and long.

Look at the sheer number of plays. Just like the Clemson game.

When the other team has almost 20 more plays on offense more than you then you are in trouble.

We punted 4 times and they punted 3 times (first 2 drives). 3 Turnovers on first down factor into that as well.

BTW LSU only 2 penalties is pretty nice to see.

11-18 on 3rd down vs 5-11..

Basically Ole Miss went 3 and out the first two series and we didnt stop them again but one single time after that for the rest of the game. NO ADJUSTMENTS! Ole miss never punted one time in the second half. A turnover and a blocked punt was the only way we got the ball back.

Seems like every blog I read want's to talk about how bad the defense was, but all I know is, 3 times in the first half LSU had good field position and was primed to score and gave the ball back to Ole Miss on stupid interceptions, and even still, it was only 10-0 at half-time. Sure our defense wasn't dominant by any stretch, but our defense is the only reason we were even within striking distance in the second half.

The lack of offensive production vs a team full of fricking scrubs literally blows my mind.

It really does.
fricking speechless.
I agree with this, like Kige.

I thought that crapping the bed against inferior competition was over with Cam Cameron as OC/QB coach. Mett's forcing the ball into tight coverage not once but three times a la JL in 2008 was mystifying. Once maybe, but not a triple.

If there's any doubt about who's running things offensively, that question was answered Saturday. CC has improved Mett, but "Dumbo" obviously hasn't given him enough control of the offense as we all would prefer. That game was classic Miles all the way around. I've seen just about enough, but will wait until seasons end to comment on the status of Deebeaux. (That's my new nickname for Miles) Getting very close now for the head coach to either shite or get off the pot! Might as well wait to see how we perform against BamA+M, but it's 11:35 and the bell chimes at midnight!

Scar-aTm was the best stretch to me. Those were good teams, and LSU played with authority in those games.

in 2011, LSU played its best football games against Fla, and Auburn. Those were complete maulings, and though the team was still great, they were not that complete machine for the rest of the season.

Incredibly stupid post.

We ran the same offense we've run all year. OM was weak up front so we ran between the tackles (and averaged over 4 yards a carry.) We had WRs open and Mett made bad reads and threw into double coverage twice. The offensive problems on Saturday were execution related, not scheme.

The rant is a black hole of football knowledge.

looks like the stat line of a team that killed the other. yet it came down to final seconds. how were we ever in that game?

Ole Miss tried really really really hard to give it away.

One real stop in the fourth quarter and LSU wins.
