The scariest part of Coach O show: Joe Alleva "Coached me up everyday." WTF?!?

WTF!?! This is the most telling statement from the Coach O show. I get all the heat about the team's performance - that was to be expected but what concerns me more is what Coach O said about his relationship with Joe Alleva.
“He’s been great to me. Listen, the man gave me a chance to come here at LSU. Big supporter of mine while I as an assistant, gave me the interim job, gave me a chance to earn it, coached me up every day,” Orgeron said.
This one statement represents everything that is wrong with the whole Coach O hire/Alleva situation. If you are an athletic director about to hand over the reigns of a multi-million dollar, flagship program to a new coach - who do you hire? A proven leader who comes in and is able to establish HIS vision and be in control of the program or someone you have had to "coach up" everyday.
Can you just imagine any AD out there having "coaching up" conversations with Saban, Harbaugh, Dabo, Jimbo...any elite coach? Heck no! We are fricked.

I took that statement in the context it was given as BS. Right along with 'Joe is the best AD I ever worked for'.

It is getting pretty obvious there wasnt a coaching search at all.
I mean I dont even think Jimbo or Herman were ever truly in the picture. I thin O and Alleva knew what was happening all along

I don't think O actually meant what he said. It's painfully obvious that he's not good at talking with the media. He probably just didn't know what to say, but couldn't help from making himself sound stupid.

I can tell you that Herman absolutely was in the picture. However, there also were no interviews. Herman was the guy and always the guy until Texas made their power-play. After that Alleva was furious Herman backed out of whatever agreement they had and hired the guy who he "knew wanted the job."
The funniest (saddest?) thing about this whole situation is that Joe Alleva "refused to get into a bidding war" for Tom Herman ONLY to get into a bidding war WITH HIMSELF for Ed Ogeron.

Getting into a bidding war for the best product is literally his job. And I don't know why the LSU of today has the mentality that they should be lowballing or bargaining for a coach. My god we're one of the most profitable athletic departments in the country. Pay the damn man!

They weren't.
Alleva was never going to the negotiating table against UT. He put on a show, and if Herman took his moderate offer upfront, great. If not, O was his guy anyway.
Jimbo was never leaving FSU for LSU, and there were never even talks between the two sides with anyone that had authority to do anything. That was a complete smoke screen fed by people with no real power that wanted to seem like they were in the know.

That's an interesting take, and you could make the argument for that being the case with Jimbo given the blatant denials from his camp about contact with LSU.
But, the same can't be said for Herman. The leak to ESPN was from an outside source (Herman's). Can't really fake that.
Your point stands though that Alleva could have had Orgeron in mind well before anyone knew and perhaps even before Miles was fired. He was probably ALWAYS a serious candidate even when everyone else was laughing at the concept.

Back to the OP, this is most likely Orgeron just kissing the arse of his employer. The irony is that from a PR standpoint, this isn't a good move given that Alleva is probably the only guy more hated at the moment. Not sure he has another option though.

It's pretty obvious he knows Joe Alleva is the only thing protecting his football career right now. Once Joe is gone, O's coaching career is done.
