I think LSU would be ranked 10th right now instead of 13th if they beat Ole Miss. They would be behind Oregon, Ohio State, and Georgia Tech because they are all conference champions.

LINK

If LSU beats Ole Miss, they are still in the Cap One bowl. A Capital One bowl victory probably means a rise of 3 to 4 spots in the final polls based on who is playing who.

Moral of the Story.......

While Miles' made a serious error in that game, is all the complaining really worth finishing 6 or 7 vs. 9 or 10 in the final polls?

no, if you're not #1 or #2 at this point...it doesn't really matter as long as you can finish in the top 10

sadly, the ole miss loss, as meaningless as it was...is still only 2nd in the list of meaningless losses to the arkansas loss of 07

I think it matters even less after the Big XII championship game. Either we got screwed or Nebraska got screwed.

Not to mention the loss made the coaches evaluate how they manage games and they proved they fixed the problem the very next week. Basically, it caused Miles to work on his biggest weakness as a coach and didn't cause the team any real damage in the overall conference and national rankings or bowl pecking order. I would say if it causes our coaching staff to work harder on 2 minute situations, it's worth one game of little consequence.

..but far more in national rep.

LSU had experienced the same time mismanagement problems in other games.

The fact that Miles finally addressed the issue proves that 1) he only responds to losses and resounding criticism and 2) that up until that point, they had never worked on it before.

Recruits don't have to go out of their way to find excuses for Miles. Mike Davis looks like the first to say, "hey wait a minute, something ain't right down there."

Wrong. Davis looks like the first to get home sick! even though it was before he even left. He said it as much in his interview. He wanted to be closer to his "momma" and now that he had a written offer from UT he was gonna go there. (Guess that kina implies that he didn't have a written offer from UT before. I find that hard to believe though).

Way to make shite up. Davis committed to Texas because he is staying in-state to play close to his family. They finally offered and he took it. Nothing more to it than that but I would expect you to turn it into a Miles bashing event and make up flase quotes.

Moral of the story, just hope LSU is never in a similar situation with a national championship game birth on the line.

since the same thing happened to mack brown, are you going to say the same thing about him? well, you can't because we don't know if he has fixed the problem.

If we win the Cap 1 we will be in the Top 10 and it will be a good year - not great - a lot better than SC, OK, GA, TN and others.

I think they'd be 9th right now, with the UGA results for both having them ahead of GT. Could still finish that high with a victory over PSU and the right combo of teams losing.

At the time, there was no way of knowing if we were going to beat Arkansas. If we had lost both, we wouldn't even get the Cap One.

LSU fans are scared that that situation could have happened if LSU happened to beat Alabama. Or it could happen again and blow a national title shot. That's why people are still freaked out over it.

The Ole Miss game was a clusterfrick and I am still mad at Miles about it. However, I think it has been blown out of proportion as I have seen other examples of similar errors (Mack Brown) and have read other examples of coaches making the same types of mistakes.

The Mack Brown mistake was waaay worse. They were driving and in control. LSU took two lucky arse plays to be in their situation.
