Zero passes over the middle too.

Is Les Miles still calling plays?

Met was the last QB to do that consistently.

the only shite we threw short middle was slants and it was not much. miles despised throwing short to intermediate middle because of what happened in 2008. miles always mainly threw outside the hashes. he let mett throw SOME deep middle in 2013. but the juicy stuff like deep crosses, digs, etc over the middle he stayed away from.

You're making too much sense. Haven't you heard? If shite works, we must go away from it never to be used again. That's the rules...keep up dude!

I have said for weeks that if the o line is too inexperienced, then the game should be played outside the hashes. IE wr screens (do not remember seeing one), swing passes (have been very successful).

Many have said that the coaches do not trust etling. I think they do not trust the wr’s just as much. That is a bad combo. The wr look lazy.

Basically, the short passing game may help solve all three problems. Glad i am all knowing. Just wish the coaches would talk to me and learn something.

When Brennan threw one of his ints against Syracuse (I think), it was on the receiver for being in the wrong spot. Frankly, I’d rather lose competively and develop some semblance of a passing game this year than win games like yesterday.

Check out two plays before that when the receiver ran the correct route and Brennan threw it directly to the DB...
Also, there very easily could have been 3 picks yesterday. One of which was on Sullivan who decided not to look to see if he was being thrown to. And props to Chark on the bomb, that was a great play. And by the way, we had one reception by a receiver yesterday. Not sure if that is saying something about our receivers or our QB but if we dont want to see 8 in the box, this will have to change.

Again, I'm just befuddled as to why we only throw slants/short hitches to RBs/TEs once a game. It seems like every time we do it it's successful. But just keep running jet sweeps until and even after the opponent catches on? Weird. Not smart football.

I think people are starting to realize the o-line isn't that bad, Etling simply refuses to step in the pocket and survey the field

He scrambles and runs pretty much right away even with a perfect pocket

The quick hitch to Moreau was a thing of beauty and very successful. Apparently, we can only do that once a game, whereas jet sweeps are utilized every other play now.

Although we had a lot of sweeps yesterday, our WRs had 10 carries for 100+ yards and a TD on them yesterday. They worked beautifully for almost the entire game. We were making it much more confusing to know what we were doing and WRs were blocking well, so I think that is part of why they worked so well though. In comparison to their 10 ypc average, in a very strange stat, both of our RBs and Etling averaged 2.9 ypc individually.
The jet sweeps were actually the difference in the game yesterday and we had two 30-yard sweeps.

I agree 100% about the short passing game though. I was happy that we threw to the RBs 5 times though for basically a 10-yard average and we probably would have had another long completion for a TD had Etling hit Williams on that wheel route. We need to get Chark more touches on quick slants or whatever because he has elite speed in the open (Dillon looks to have awesome speed too).

I don’t think they trust the passing game to do this repeatedly imo.

Wow...that was bad to watch. Etling still has an issue with throwing it too hard on short routes. He is much better than Harris was on those though (not hard to beat, but still...)

Agree 100%, with ol noodle arm behind center. With Etling's skill set I thought that would be a perfect throw for him. Midrange passes and screen passes would be good for Etling.

he is afraid to throw the ball if the DB is anywhere near his WR. if we wanna have success throwing he has to throw it when the receivers are making their cuts, he is waiting til after the cut to see if the player gets open or not and then the DBs have time to recover

the victory was great. the being scared to execute the play the coaches called and QB ignoring the play calls and deciding that it would be better for him to just tuck it and run 3 yards every time the coaches wanted him to run a passing play was not good

if the coaches wanted him to run for 3 yards on every 2nd or 3rd and long they would just call streaks instead of actual routes for the WRs to give him more room to run
