No excuse for any of those losses. Chalk it up to being a young team I guess.

Their rebounding has improved dramatically over the past few games and that Tells me they are beginning to get it and coming together as a team.

Didn't start this lineup, clearly
We've been inconsistent, to say the least. That's why these next 5 games we really need to get consistent and win them all.

Six tough road games ahead, but the team is playing much better, right now. Everyone contributing. Appreciate the job Hickey does bringing the ball up the court. Tonight he had 6 assists and 1 turnover! There have been years when getting the ball across half court was such a difficult chore. Keep playing hard guys!

I mean today we are up by 20 and the game seems over. Blinked twice. Only up by 12. Blinked three times, up by 9. Yeah we rallied and came back but it is just so easy to relax, miss a few shots, make a few mistakes and let the other team take over or come back.

quote:We are playing a matchup zone the last 2 games with the guards running opposing shooters off the three point line right into Mickey and JOB. Coach Jones really found something in the UK game, when we were forced to play zone because we couldn't match up with them in man. We need to use this as our base defense for the rest of the year because it takes away mismatches on the perimeter, i.e.- other teams shooting over our small guards and driving by Shavon and Jerell. Instead, we can force teams to dribble through the quick hands of Hickey, Stringer and Morgan, while forcing them to take ugly shots over our shot blockers. This strategy is also helping our bigs stay out of foul trouble. I understand us not zoning ole miss cause henderson shoots it from everywhere, but we played way too much man against ri, ut & bama

Calipari even said this after the LSU loss- that they expected us to come out in man because that's what we've been doing all year. But coach Jones realized there would be too many mismatches to play that way against kentucky. The reality is that those same mismatches on the perimeter will exist in almost every game we play because our guards are 5"10 and Jerell doesn't have the foot speed to stay in front of people. The zone allows us to play to our strengths, and there are only about 4 teams with guard play that's good enough to exploit it- Mizzou, who we've already beaten, ole miss, tenn and florida. If we continue to play smart on defense, run guys off the 3 point line and contest midrange shots without fouling, we'll be extremely tough to beat. And if we can do this while continuing to play at our own pace on offense, we could win 9 or 10 straight and be a top 10-15 team in March.

Sick just fricking insane.
Especially when they show up ready to play with intentsity and energy.
We do have to play zone with that lineup and that may come back to bite us with a team that hits their open looks. But we'll worry about that when it happens and if we have to adjust we can put a lineup in better suited to man.

another good move to come out in zone yesterday, i expect we'll do the same in athens.

This has turned out to be the magic formula.

Jones should know "The Freak" since he was a part of a couple of those Daddy Dale runs

We shot 55% and 54% on two point shots against UK and Arkansas, two teams who average only giving up 39% and 40% shooting on 2-Pt shots. Our bigs are dominating.

Stringer and Malik Morgan both played well, too! Stringer now hitting .410 on 3s!
Liked Morgan's drive to the basket.
Nice team chemistry coming together.
Play hard in Athens!!

I love how Hickey doesn't even score some times but is the MVP of that offense. JOB III is easily the best overall player on the team but without Hickey, we are studs without a foundation to build on.
AH is the reason we are in this position. Dude is a leader and a floor general.

I noticed that zone has helped out a lot too. Maybe they are starting to trust each other more playing it. They look like they are having more fun too playing together. Although, winning in anything makes you happy.

It's not the lineup as much as the zone we've been playing that matches these guys skill set. This same lineup is a below average defensive team playing man to man
