The Indy bowl win against Notre Dame was cool too.

That was awesome, busted out the white helmets for that one.

Now that I think about it I was jacked when we played Michigan State and Notre Dame in Shreveport.

Expectations have changed for sure.

2012 Bama- miles got too cute and out coached himself. The fake fg was a ridiculous choice and the Warecat was just stupid and ill-advised. Just give it to Hill. They didn't stop him all night. What did we do? Ran right up the middle of a crowded box.'should've gone for it instead of attempting the fg that was subsequently missed. We deserved more but we got Les.

Damn, you missed everything.

over the past few years I've been able to go back and watch the bigger games on YouTube, in true nerd fashion. Saturday against A&M was my last game as an undergrad, so I've witnessed some really good games.

I'm still waiting to see a fully unhinged, 100k+ fan game in Death Valley. Ole Miss last year was great, but I'm still holding out for better.

One of the most mentally retarded terms regarding periods of time. Give me a Bronze or Iron Age any day and I'll show you a lasting legacy.

Man I love that Auburn game, and I wouldn't argue with anyone that says that's when it started because of the championship implications. But for anyone that had the experience of being in the student section on 9/30/00 against Tennessee, they will surely understand that as being a night that simply cannot be excluded from The Golden Age.

As for the end, I would also argue that it is a lull and we are still in it.

But if I had to pick a game that made me feel like things had changed, I would say 11/9/13 in Tuscaloosa.

Even the 2012 game, I was thrilled that we dominated them and felt that Mett was the answer we'd been waiting for since Flynn and our offense was poised to explode the next year.

While that did happen, the defense collapsed. The loss to UGA was a great loss, if there is such a thing. And even the OM loss just felt almost like the UF loss in 06 when our great QB just had an off day and gave the game away. But that exciting season could have still been special with a win against Bama to ruin their shot at a threepeat.

But when Copeland fumbled going in for a TD on the opening drive, I felt like we simply couldn't do it. Our players were too obsessed with this Alabama albatross.

And after keeping the game tied until the 4th quarter, the collapse felt like a paradigm shift. Seeing our OL get destroyed again ending with Mett crawling off the field while everyone just stood around represented a turning point to me.

I hadn't felt so down about our team in a very very long time, and that truly sparked a bit of uneasiness about where we might be headed unlike anything before it.

That'll be 2016 Alabama.

2016 Ole Miss two weeks before could be pretty great, depending on how they do next season.

2012 South Carolina was my loudest game as a student. Louder than Alabama that year.

For someone who attended many games during the Hallman years, it's still goldish for me. Some might not understand, but the excitement of Dinardo getting us to Indy Bowl where we beat Michigan State (Nick's first year at MSU) was a lot of fun.

I attended LSU from 1992 to 1996. After suffering through LSU's lowest of lows during the Hallman years, the 1995 Independence Bowl season felt like a national championship run.

Seccg win vs tenn was it for me.
Plus that's the week Charlie McClendon died.

I also feel that the 2002 Sugar Bowl win against Illinois kind of said we were a power now.

That was a huge win/game.

Good post.

Was not at that Tennessee game. I remember where I watched it though! That was the week after UAB beat us, I'm pretty sure.

My first year as an lsu student. Almost skipped this game but ended up going at the last minute and sat on the top row of the student section. That whole season was awesome

USC in 2012 was a very underrated game, IMO. Place was nuts all night long.

And the back & forth with Ole Miss the past few years makes that game pretty exciting. Frustrating, yes but who doesn't like a good show?

You nailed the end, I thought the 2012 team would be just as good and Bama would be much worse. I was more devastated after that loss.

Crowd was loose. We had heard all week how Clowney and co. were going to destroy our O-line. It's almost like the crowd knew the team needed them.

The Alabama game that year was still great, but the crowd was nervous.

Nervousness I understand, but apathy in the student section really grinds my gears. I was surrounded by people on their phones DURING THE FLORIDA GAME. Maybe the most fun home game of the year!

Obviously there's nothing we can do about it, but just once I would love to see a game where 100% of the student section (+ rest of crowd) is relentless from start to finish. I want to hear how players are terrified of coming to Death Valley again.

The crowd was pretty relentless during the 2014 Ole Miss game. You could feel the hate in the air. They were undefeated and overrated, and we wanted to be the ones to take them down, and we did. Despite the lack of offensive fireworks, the fans were screaming all game long. It was the most intense I had seen Death Valley since the 2012 Bama game.

I would say that the start of LSU football was 2001 SEC Title game beating Tennessee with Matt Mauck. Rematch with them having lost at their place. It was at that point where I felt like we really were in that upper tier as far as talent and we could beat the east divison. At the time, the East was far superior with Florida, Tennessee, and Georgia playing the best football during that time.

I would say the program did take a huge hit on 1/9. That team deserved to win it all given the schedule that they played.

To me, it hasnt ended completely. We are in a slump like 2008 and 2009 seasons you just have to add to it that we lost to Bama five straight and we cant year in and year out take care of business versus Moo State, Ole MIss, and Alabama.

We definitely lost our swagger in 2013. We played well in first half but it was pretty much not a contest. I thought that offense would perform like 2012 with so many studs. That game to me was a huge dip in confidence bc we were not competitive. The Bama game in 2012 and 2014 we out played them and should have won whereas 2013 and 2015 not so much.
