The facts are that Jayden Daniels...

1. Came from a less talented and under coached dumpster fire at ASU.
2. Learned a new team and offensive system on the fly in the toughest division in the toughest league in college football.
3. Beat out the probable incumbents in Brennan and Nuss.
4. Helped his team win the division and will be playing for the SEC crown.
5. Hasn't taken a redshirt which is a compliment to his abilities and football IQ. He is a true junior.
6. Is respected and feared him. SEC coaches
7. Has similar number to Joseph Burrow and no one has been better since Joe Burrow. Granted Max Johnson was serviceable at best, however he wouldn't have gotten LSU this far.
8. Had decided to go to aTm instead of LSU, they are most likely undefeated and playing in our place this weekend.
9. Is not a WR or any other position, he is and will be a next level QB, like it or not. NFL scouts see him as such.
10. Decides to come back and the offensive play improves and better compliments his abilities and the surrounding cast strengths, he is in the Hiesman discussion next year without question
Hate it or love it, he's not perfect, but he is the best we have and for the most part any team would love to have. And the biased and spoiled LSU fanbase should as well.

I don’t know that he’s regressed as much as teams have figured out how to beat him. Most teams have been dropping 7 or 8 in coverage with a spy. He’s not a good enough passing QB right now to beat that defensive alignment.
Which begs the question of why we don’t take what the D gives us and pound the ball. Especially in the A&M game. We tried to get cute too many times when they were giving us 5-6 yards on the ground.

See # 10. Play calling has to be questioned as well as his play. Valid point though.

You aren’t completely wrong, but you are wrong in #9 about him being a next level QB. Barring a miraculous turnaround this won’t happen. The NFL ain’t looking for QBs who freeze in the pocket and won’t pull the trigger.

The offense was a disaster against Arkansas, but agree Jayden played poorly. UAB he played fine. A&M he did not play well but was not a complete disaster. Just wish he would trust his receivers downfield and not try to do it all himself at times.

A while back Kelly said they were modifying the playbook to plays JD was comfortable with. The problem is if you can't open up the playbook with JD opponents know it and gameplan to defend his skill set. If he won't throw deep teams can walk safeties down, load the box and take away his safe throws and run lanes.
He has to trust his WRs to win 50/50 balls. Weigman threw two contested deep throws to Muse Muhamed and he won both vs Sage Ryan. Ryan actually had tight coverage, but a true FR QB trusted his WR to win the ball. I remember video of Brady at practice screaming at the QB to cut the ball loose. Sloan, Denbrock or Kelly need to do the same with JD. He's an incredible runner and can make some really good throws, but if he won't trust himself and/or his WRs we lose our best weapon which is an extremely talented WR group.
Even weak armed Max was hitting WRs in stride for big YAC. Maybe another off season will make a difference for JD. I hope so.

Point taken, that's why I think he needs to come back another year to develop that part of his game.

His biggest problem, IMHO, is when a play breaks down he trusts his legs more than his arm.
In the PAC-12 that worked well against teams with less talent than the SEC.
In the middle of the season, it seemed he was breaking away from that, but two of his last three games were the old JD. If old JD shows up Saturday, we will get crushed.

He absolutely WILL NOT be an elite QB in the NFL. He can't read defenses well, struggles mightly to go through his progressions and refuses to push the ball downfield to the point it is maddening.If it wasn't for his running ability, he'd be barely serviceable in the Sunbelt or Southland conferences.

Too bad they can't teach him to keep his eyes downfield when he takes off. That action gets defenders off receivers and many times opens up a big pass play.
But when JD5 tucks to run, he ain't passing. Just running.
He could add an interesting and very valuable trait to his game. If he stays, I hope he picks that up.

It seemed like we were trying to stay pretty balanced early. Our running game got stronger as the game went on (4.3 ypc and 56% success rate on RB runs in first half vs. 5.8 ypc and 73% success rate in second half) but our ability to commit to the run game also dwindled as the game went on, due to the score and the time remaining.
I think it’s also worth remembering that our RB depth is rough right now with Goodwin out and Williams apparently still hurt.
Emery bounced back really well from his struggles last week, but I think you have to keep those issues in the back of your mind to a point. Are you going to give him 15-20 carries, a week after he had two fumbles on 9 carries?

I agree with your comments but I will say this about Jayden; the dude has played with tremendous effort and heart. He is kinda limited but hopefully he comes back and improves.

He is a true Senior with an extra year due to Covid. He was at ASU in 2019.
