The elephant in the room re: Chavis and personnel decisions

It's time to bring some serious heat towards the line of thinking on our defense. The decisions made absolutely baffle me.
It has been painfully obvious in years past that welter wasn't exactly a prototype MLB. I don't think Lamar Louis is the answer either.
Instead of putting Beckwith out there early in the season, we moved him to de. In every game he has had very limited snaps at that position, yet has been highly productive.
The breaking point for me was the Bama game obviously. They attacked welter. They isolated te's on him, they isolated cooper on him, and they ran straight at him. A high percentage of their plays were designed to attack welter.
Meanwhile, Beckwith is blowing up the Bama players on special teams all game long. I'd have to think he would be doing the same thing at MLB if he had been playin it all season.
And rashard Robinson should be starting over mills. Mills looks lost out there, and Reid protected him last year.
Robinson and Beckwith get ticky tack fouls and get benched.
Chavis is our lb guru right? It's time to majorly question his evaluation skills at this point IMO.

Wouldn't you do the same?
Look for sumlin to do the same thing
Chief has been a major disappointment this year.

It's a new precedent set this year because that didn't used to happen with miles.

yup...its like hes lost his nerve this year. We're not blitzing near enough and when we do, our scheme is picked up and we end up whiffing anyways.

if we're going down this year i'd rather it be with freshmen like beckwith, robinson, and white.
welter and mills don't seem to bring anything better to the table than those guys. might as well get the freshmen valuable playing time.
i have a feeling this defense is gonna hit absolute rock bottom when johnny football comes to town.

Chief is having one bad year, which is expected with us losing so many in the draft and having to start so many freshman. Chill, stop being so negative, and learn to enjoy pulling for the tigers.

Outside of subbing for Welter, who the frick else was he supposed to play? We lost like 9 guys that should be starting on this defense.

I think it starts with the D-line. A bad D-line will make Ray Lewis look bad.

Yep. We knew the defense would suffer this season. If we still finish with a 9-3 record, we will have accomplished something. I don't expect to see much change in the defense from here on out. However, the teams we're playing have WORSE defenses. We should win all the remaining games.

I hate to tell all you fools but I live in college station and I've watch aggies live 3 times this year....
1. The Aggie offense is not power football. They have no scheme nor personnel to replicate Bamas.
2. When it comes to matchups we have CLEAR advantages. Defensively, aggies have no backbone, if you think Welter is bad wait till you feast on aggies lb play. Sustained drives will limit there production.
3. Johnny football is a seriius threat but he will make some mistakes. A turnover free ball game by LSU and we win by 10 @ least.

Agree 100%. I quit blaming Welter for his failures. The kid should be a backup on the punt team. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten seriously injured yet. That he is a starter speaks volumes about player evaluations made by Chavis. I HOPE it doesn't indicate that the guys on the bench are actually that much worse than Welter. If so we are in deep ca ca for the next few years.
The fact that defense has not improved one bit since game 1 is very troubling as well.

Maybe Im just hallucinating but I see very valid names on the WHO mentioned in this thread.

Not sure what's funny about that. We don't turn the ball over, we are capable of keeping Maziel off the field.

There is NO way 31 sees significant snaps next Sat.
That will truly be my tipping point.
I'll invest in Alexander and Tovell at UL.

More than capable.......if we rush for 250 with 0 turnovers this game it won't be close......I haven't even mentioned how easy landry and beckham will get open....
OUR GOAL SHOULD BE rush for 250, 0 turnovers, and double teaming Evans!

The defense has performed pretty much how most rational fans thought they would at the beginning of the season
The talent is there but the grasp of the defense and experience just isn't. Welter stays in there because he is the only one who can get everybody lined up correctly.
Chavis has been one if the best DCs in college football and he will right the ship.
