But the fact that I wasn't sitting in front of the screen, for the kickoff, was just a weird experience.

The NFL has lost my attention. Sure I'll check scores and what not, but I hardly watch because I don't care for it anymore. Your priorities lie elsewhere, it really isn't a big deal.

Has fatherhood made football less important, or is the football I'm watching just really that bad

Sounds like you're bad at fathering winner kids.

My first son was born in August of 2002 and was around and "in" Tiger Stadium for the AU game in 2001 that sent LSU to it's first SECCG and the beginning of this historic run. His birth ushered in the first SEC Championship for LSU in the SECCG era and then a second in 2003 plus the first NC since 1958.

Second son was born in April of 2007...SEC Title and NC...again.

Sadly, I'm done...so the golden age may be over.

ETA: But as others have said, LSU football, as much as we like to pretend it isn't, is simply entertainment for 99.9% of us. The fact that so many of our fans allow it to rule their lives and bring them joy/sadness in such levels is kind of the problem.

but I have literally "grown tired" of watching the same bad movie every Saturday

159-48 since 2000, #2 in the nation among power 5 schools, is your idea of a "bad movie every Saturday"???

What LSU football did you watch before 2000?

I can understand disappointment over this or that, but when that disappointment so clouds your vision that you label it as "bad movie every Saturday", you might want to step away and try to gain a little perspective. imo

Is this typical for new fathers in need of sleep, or is this the result of me watching terrible football for one too many times.

When my son was born, I would fall asleep at work, in restaurants, even while driving once or twice. That doesn't take away from what you're saying, because both teams have been hard to watch this year, but my son is 3 years old now and I still don't sleep through the night. I doubt I ever will again.

For a long time, you'll jerk awake from a sound sleep if he/she so much as coughs. Savor these moments.

Having a kid has certainly made the losses easier to handle. Perspective is everything.

Congrats on becoming an adult with proper priorities! Football is just a game and should be for entertainment win or lose, not as something to schedule your life around and dictate your mood.

Step 1: remember the 90's
Step 2: give no credit to Saban
Step 3: count les miles wins
Step 4: pretend les is the GOAT coach
Step 5: repeat step 3
Step 6: stay in denial
Step 7: repeat all steps

Are you asking the Internet how to tell if you are tired?

I have watched LSU football through years of suck, years on top, and years in the middle. I can honestly say that my interest level really is not dependent on the quality of the team, but what else is going on in life

I truly enjoy the keyboard gangsta's and overly sensitive idealist. All Internet message boards would be lifeless without you guys.

If you read the original post, and came away thinking that I am lacking in the parenting department, then their is no need to address your comprehension skills, as they are very apparent.

With any thread, it is expected that the overly angry, non sensibles will reveal themselves. I can only laugh, as those guys (or girls) really make my day.

To those that provided some thoughtful insight in response to the original post...

It is comforting knowing that some posters can actually read something in context, and reply without needing to be idiotic.

P.S.
A few years ago, I guy posted that I was a, dumb, minimum wage, basket pusher for a living..(this is paraphrasing, the actual post was much more detailed :-).
Because I said that DJ welter was a weakness on our defense.
I was literally rotflmmfao!

As I am now.

It's fatherhood. Soon you'll be taking family vacations on big game weekends and just check the final score late at night before you go to sleep. And you won't care especially if the team keeps playing like it has been.

All three of mine are in college now. I'd trade a whole lot of LSU & Saints wins from the past to have them young and back home again. As much as I love LSU, those years with my kids living under my roof were truly our glory years.

Yes, we are struggling with empty nest - especially since my wife of 25 years was diagnosed with cancer 2 weeks before Christmas. As others have said, enjoy fatherhood!

I grew up in BR but went to USM (scholarship!). My worst night was when USM came into tiger stadium in 1993 and won on a last minute FG. USM was not good but LSU was even worse. Was real depressing as far as sports go.
