That's really hard to read but it looks like Pap's OB% is better than Coomes.

ETA: Nevermind. The format of your post threw me off.

Don't disagree with Coomes receiving more opportunities but I would note that he does not have a single XBH yet this season. So his slugging numbers are actually below Pap.

Not that he wouldn't provide more pop with additional ABs.

I feel like we've had catcher hitting issues for awhile. Ty Ross did pretty well his last year here after struggling quite a bit. I don't know why Pap isn't doing better. He's had three years of college ball, and he started last year. Dude just can't hit. Every time he walks up to bat and someone is on base he whiffs.

Even when we need just a sac fly or a ground ball to the right side, he can't do that. K or pop up every fricking time.

IDK what Pulmonary is going to do but it needs to happen before we play florida

If Pap was just out of this world defensively, and as long as we had the line up to support one non hitter I would be ok with Pap. Its his defensive play recently that has me wanting him on the bench. If you can't hit, and we have another catcher who can equal what you are doing defensively...then sit on the bench.

Maybe he just needs an extended break, like last season, to get his mind right.

Hasn't Coomes been battling a hip injury? And we know Romero can't play catcher with his shoulder problem. I think it's more of a situation of Pap by default until Coomes is healthy enough to catch on a consistent basis (i.e. back-to-back-to-back games).

ETA:

From 2 weeks ago:

quote:

The coach announced Thursday that backup Nick Coomes would likely miss this weekend due to a sore hip. The LSU-Eunice transfer irritated the hip during last Saturday’s win against Baylor and felt “severe pain” Monday, Mainieri said. Coomes would’ve caught against McNeese State if healthy.

“We got him checked out, and the prudent thing is to give a little bit of rest,” Mainieri said. “It’s going to be something that’s manageable, at least through the end of the season, but we’ve just got to pick and choose our times when we choose to give him some rest.”

In other words.....I'll give my boy Pap 1,764 chances to get it going.

Because we all know that Pap fits the absolute perfect mold of what a catcher should be.

pap seems to reach for the ball a lot. not sure if that's the correct way or not. but, it seems like it contributes to his inability to receive the ball cleanly.

Is Coomes' physically able to catch a full series at this point? If so, yes, he should get a series to see if he is a better option because Pap has been putrid.
