I think most folks expected the book to be about LSU football, and it's not. JEB is a fantastic writer. The book is full of raw emotion that readers seeking a football story don't want to hear.
Nailed it.
Most that read it went into it expecting a "LSU Football" book. Thats not what they got, and that disappointed them.

Maybe my favorite book about LSU. I suspect there are many LSU player from his era who had this type of love for LSU, growing up in Louisiana. He was able to express it in book form, great read and his passion for LSU was just how I think I would have felt had I had the chance to ever play for LSU. Great book.

It felt like we were going to win that game and should have but the 3-0 Bama loss was totally different. It was a lot like the national championship 21-0 loss except cold and rainy. We never came close
Could have for sure. I would not go as far as should have. USC pretty led by a bunch in every stat. USC did have 5 fumbles and lost 2. LSU had 1 and kept it
Box score for those interested

From the author himself:
2007 Interview - a good read. - and the source of my sig quote.

It’s not really a football book. Because I’m out promoting this thing I have to go on sports talk radio and we talk x’s and o’s and I think they’re missing the point. It’s really about love and loss and trying to find again what we can’t have back.

Really enjoyed the book once I realized it wasn't meant to be a pure football book.
