This is an older SI article by former LSU Center John Ed Bradley. It may have already been posted years back, but man it's a great read for a Tiger fan!

Outside of playing for the Tigers he is known for the book "It Never Rains In Tige Stadium". I was at that incredible game against USC in 79. I remember he also wrote a great article in the Morning Advocate the next week that chronicled the teams preparation for that game. I may be wrong but I believe that was the first EVER night game on ESPN.
He does live in the LSU days but so do I from time to time. Hell, I am 55.

Good writer, but having read this and some of his other stuff, I infer that he struggles with depression.

I agree. I couldn't even get halfway through his book. He needs some help imo

It's a very good book, it is NOT a puff piece, rah-rah, LSU is the greatest ever, book. I think a lot of people were expecting a cheerleader book and were disappointed, so they panned the it. I felt John Ed poured his heart out and I enjoyed it.

"He does live in the LSU days but so do I from time to time."

You don't understand him, if you think he lives in the LSU years. Quite the contrary.

I knew his nephew, he said that his uncle thought of LSU like a girl who he fell in love with and then after 4 years he could no longer date her. Then to go back and see her with other people was too painful.

I finished it against my better judgment. It was quite the downer.

Brad, Patrick or Jordan?

John Ed's sister was one of my high school English teachers.

I read this book. He came across as very whiney and like it was some huge burden to be a former LSU tiger.

Good writer but it rubbed me the wrong way

This book is an expanded, book-length version of the essay/article in the OP.

We're from Opelousas and my folks know him well. My dad played ball with him in high school.

Told me after LSU, John Ed essentially turned into a recluse. They would try to go check on him and he just had a hard time dealing with anyone.

He's fine now. I think getting all of it out now is his way of dealing with it.

I enjoyed his book. I was at the USC game which for me there has never been another like it and I have been going to TS for 45 years. He just had a unique players perspective of the LSU experience.

I agree with the other poster. His book seems to be from somewhat not happy at all. Just gets boring pretty quick too.

Yeah, I guess I'm not a real fan.

I read the book many years ago. One thing that I recall is how he felt they were so close to beating Bama (3-0 loss I think) in his Sr. year. One play here or there would have been the difference but they couldn't quite get it done. That led to everyone calling for Cholly Mac to be fired and celebrating when he was let go. For the university that you poured your heart and soul into for four years along with playing for a genuine father figure like Mac, I think that impacted him withdrawing a bit from the scene.

Another part of the book I recall is his teammate that had the unfortunate accident in the swimming pool. If I remember correctly, that teammate adjusted to his new life and seemed content in living beyond his tragic situation.
