miles' psyche is that he'd rather win a close, thrilling game than beat the shite out of a team. oh, that mad hatter and his team just find ways to win! va tech 2007 seems like decades ago. it's football, you have to have that killer instinct.

that said, first game and all, i am just glad we held on and won, but we've seen this movie way to often.

2 questions:
1. How many of these people are there?
2. How many of them are Powerball millionaires? (Because they can look into the future, right?)

I wanted to start using clock late in the 3rd and I think the uptempo offense in that situation bothered me more than just being conservative. I think we did it the following possession also or 2nd poss of 4th qtr

Well, les has a fundamental issue. He is in no way proactive and even when he reacts it isn't in time. That has always been his issue and is exactly why 1/9/2012 happened as did 2 losses to inferior opponents in 2007 and to Auburn in 2006.

LSU could face the team with the 120th ranked pass defense and 1st rush defense, and he and his coaches would insist on running at greater than a 2 to 1 clip just because that's how he is.

He's basically coach Herman Boone. Insistent that his 6 play offense is fine and if you run it enough it will eventually work. In the end, when Boone's teams faced anyone with legit talent they faded.

Creativity is the key here and Les and his staff have none.

As much as people hate him, this is one major reason Sabsn is a significantly more successful coach than Miles. He cares more about the process and by doing so strong wins will come along. Instead, Miles is simply satisfied with a result and that is sad, because as a coach that isn't your main job to focus on.

While that might sound crazy, think about it like this: winning is the byproduct of fulfilling the process to win. You can't win championships by simply trying to bowl over the opponent.

I'm happy we won too, but I'm pissed we were more predictable than Great Value vanilla ice cream for half the game...

Not to mention the toss dive 3 plays in a row with 10 in the box.

"LSU should have put that game away in the second quarter. They opened up the playbook a bit and where getting chunk plays, they just kept getting called back.

Then, in the 3rd quarter, rather than putting State to bed Les and co. acted like there was 4 minutes left in the game and started running clock.

Groundbreaking and original post. I'm saving the "yawn" pic to use in the future. Thank you.

I don't get why people use his logic to justify current state of the program. Sure, LSU won. But the reason people who criticize Miles/Cameron are looking into the future. They project that if we don't change our offensive approach, we won't be a program at a high level.

The "we won" logic doesn't address the issue. It's just sweeping the causes/symptoms under the rug.

The point is that college football is a constantly changing game and that many feel that our coaching staff is lagging behind.

I always said that there are 2 keys to a balanced offense. 1) Having personnel to execute which LSU has. 2) Creative playacting which LSU lacks.

When you play the New Mexico or McNeese state of the world, LSU can put up big numbers because LSU's athletes can overpower and outspeed their personal. But when LSU plays legit competition like Bama or Auburn, LSU players are at the same level as their players. So this is were creative playcalling comes in.

If other team knows what you're doing, it's game-over because they will adjust to stop it. There's no need for them guess. It's like poker, you have to mix it up to keep opponents on their toes.

Unfortunately, complacency is an uncontrollable and contagious disease my friend!!!

OP is correct

Rantards have lost their balance, Miles is NOT a good coach and will be the reason we lose more than 1 or 2 games this season.

With a top 10 coach..this team finished 9-2 or 10-1 with a top 10 or 5 finish

With Miles, 8-3 or 7-4, barely top 20.

THAT is not what a top tier program deserves (which we may no longer have claim to)

However, they did open up the offense significantly in Mett's second start year with the players around him.

how can anyone who watched the team say this? the first couple of games we did run a good offense.

then when miles figured we could run without passing and win that's the offense we went to. the same old, same old. you know, line up in running formation and always running on 1st and 2d down. the difference was that even though we got stuckwith 3rd down passing mett landry and beckham were so good they had a lot of success with it.

our offense was stifled that year by the same old playcalling. we just had talent that made the coaches look better.

The "be happy, we won" logic

...cause it was our first game of the season, QB's second start and a away game in the SEC.

That's really all there is to it.

We went on the road into a noisy environment and played well. A few penalties stopped this game from being a complete blow out early. BH didn't throw for 300 yards, but he played the role asked of him and did it well.

On offense our best player is at the RB position, so expect him to be fed plain and simple.

This was a great first game and while we will always have room for improvement, this is a direction that I am comfortable with.

No team in the SEC looks like a rockstar this year and I do feel that LSU can be at the top this year. We will continue to improve this year and I am ready to watch us kick some Auburn arse!
