I'm pretty familiar with Austin as my wife's family has lived in the Metro since 2006 and I moved here in April. However, I've never been around a UT football game.

I'm obviously excited about the Tigers coming to town and was wondering if any Longhorns or people familiar with their gameday experience can give us newbies a breakdown of where the action takes place.

Is it mostly an outdoor experience where people bring their own food and drinks? Or are bars the move? Any advice is appreciated.

It sucks from a tailgating perspective. Since campus sits at the northern edge of downtown, you pretty much have no place to tailgate except parking lots and garages. There are several bars and restaurants nearby, but that’s about it. It’s nothing like SEC tailgating.

Well, that's disappointing. Guess we'll just look for a bar near my parent's hotel downtown.

Went to Austin for the first time a few months ago. Didn’t see everything but did see around campus and can’t imagine they have a ton of tailgating areas. I would think bars as well

Yeah, I know the campus is kind of intertwined with Downtown. They don't have a whole lot of green space in general in that area.

I drank a lot of beer in the parking garage for the baseball series.

Lived in Austin area for about 7 years and have been to a few games here. The tailgating is not even close to Baton Rouge. Here is a little info I've found in the past.

They tailgate in parking garages or rent out space in a parking lot where they charge you to enter to tailgate. It’s horrible. The stadium is pretty nice tho...

Find a piece of grass and put your tent down. Fire up the grill and fryer and get going. It’s just what we do and it blows other schools minds. Syracuse wouldnt have it though. Sent everyone to a hill.

Downtown Austin actually has quite a bit of green space and parks. Unfortunately, none of it is near campus. The inner part of campus is much nicer than the exterior areas, but you can’t tailgate there.

To set up your own tailgate, focus on east of Interstate 35 and south of campus. I think it would be easier (no pass, no permit) to focus east, around the cemetery near the baseball field (Disch-Falk).

Ground zero for "the action" would be around Scholz Garten (google it).

any help on where I can setup a tent, ice chest, and radio to make my own good time with friends? And not be treated like a convicted felon for having fun by campus police or any other silly gameday authority figure? thanks and

We shouldn't throw stones at glass houses on this topic.

6th Street isn’t too far a walk. Scholz will be packed I’m sure. There’s also a few bars on the drag to the west of campus on Guadalupe as well as just north of campus.
