Yup. The fact that you got so many downvotes for this glaringly obvious observation shows how delusional the Miles bromancers are.

If Im him, I see the writing on the wall last year and parlay that great send-off into an offseason retirement negotiation. HE chose to be stubborn and push on.

When we had bad teams in 08 and 09 people in here were saying Miles was just lucky in 07.
I said it in 2007. What do I win?

Pitt had to pull off a huge upset of WV for LSU to be in that game. LSU was ranked #1 twice that season, and Miles' teams promptly lost each time they ascended to that ranking.

His teams always looked disorganized, and they were. He was a great recruiter, which is how he won, and he was a great provider of a farm team for the NFL, but since I don't give a shite about the NFL, this doesn't comfort me.

Dude. I'm a Miles hater since my first post on this site. You're arguing with an ally, but OP's ridiculous statement is wrong.

Why don't you two get a room? You could both benefit from a double dutch rudder, I'm sure.

In the years to come and he stays around BR Les will be looked at just about the same as Charlie Mac.

This is correct. People are not talking about 05-11. They are talking about TE last 5 years.
People started to grow tired after 2008, but gave him the benefit of the doubt. To his credit, he played the university for a lot of money based on his 07 and 11 success. He should have been fired in 12 or 13.
He just overstayed his welcome by NOT CHANGING!!

No not exactly.

It's a credit to the strengths of both the program and Miles himself that so much success was attained during his time at LSU despite his extreme weaknesses (offensive philosophy and clock management).

Probably, but it wasn't all bad like your post implies.

Define all bad. Were we headed in the wrong direction? yes
Were other teams surpassing us with success? yes
Was our offense stagnating? yes
Wan ANYBODY afraid to play LSU anymore? Hell no
Were the players quitting on Miles? It would appear so based on effort.
Was miles lying about changes to the O? Yep

I mean to me, that seems pretty bad.

Through 2011 he had established a great legacy. That cannot be diminished.

His last few years are the definition of mediocrity. Taking sentimentality out of it, it was time to move on.

Nothing more.

LSU is still a great brand the brand belongs to LSU and not Les Miles.

Yes they do, I've seen countless posts since he got fired.

A huge problem just kept churning out successful seasons, right?

if your definition of "successful" includes being 10-10 against the SEC West the last 3+ years, all with top 5 recruiting classes, then sure.

But that ain't my definition.

To be fair, we basically won 10 games last year, too.

We weren't getting there this year, though. It was time for him to go. Although, he didn't leave LSU as bad off as Carr and Brown did at Michigan and Texas, respectively. And not nearly as bad as Tennessee was when Fulmer left. Mainly because of the talent level we still have here. Miles never stopped recruiting.

Would it have gotten to that point? Maybe so. That's why it's good we made the move during the season, instead of waiting until the end of 2016.

LSU's bad years under both Miles and Saban were decent in the big scheme of CFB. This century LSU's low water mark is 8 wins. I think only Boise St can match that record. Saban was a damn good coach here, but I think his failure in the NFL sent him back to college where he has simply become the GOAT in CFB. If he had been successful in the NFL, and not returned to CFB and a division opponent, Miles would still be the coach and loved by most negatigers. However, I do believe LSU fans would be getting antsy over the offense and thinking Les is going down the Bowden, Beamer, Brown, and Paterno role.

We will all see what the old coaching staff can do minus two. They are as a group very good recruiters, but this year is going to test their acumen in actually coaching players.

He felt the need to bring up that Miles was the only coach to win a championship with two losses, with the implication being that it was undeserved.

No, the implication is that he was the head coach of a team that lost not 1 but 2 games that they had no business losing:
- the first ... a loss to fricking Kentucky...

- the second ... a bad loss, considering the timing and knowing what was at stake.

... but then got lucky as all hell when some very unlikely things happened to let them get to the MNC game ... and then took care of business in superb fashion.

I don't think "undeserved" is the right word...unless, again, one considers the fact that LSU may be the only football team in history with both a MNC victory and a loss to fricking Kentucky in the same year.

That was just an odd year, strange, amazing year.
