Same with every opener, and every bowl game. TCU, UDub, Oregon.

Well then there are people who thought wed lose those games, but we didn't. The rant is full of extremes from both sides.

Limit those to 2 or 3 yard runs without stacking the box and win this game. Very interested to see how Chavis addresses this with young players next year because it really is what separates this good team from greatness.

I think the key is defensive aggressiveness and pressure. Look at the Tigers' most successful outing this year against A&M. That success was due to the pressure they applied. The aggressiveness they played with. It is very easy for players to fall into a read and react mode when playing soft zone. This is especially true of young players like ours. They have been FAR too passive in many games this season, and its cost us two games.

I am hoping that, with the extra time to prepare for the bowl game, that Chavis will turn the D loose again. Use more man to man with our talented young corners. Keep the LBs in for run support, and to cover Iowa's good TEs. Get them in long yardage third down situations, and then blitz, blitz, blitz. Forget all this talk about Jennings, Make THEIR QB make plays.

I think too much has been made of Iowa's running game. Yes the Hawks are a run first team, however they havn't really gashed anyone (in conference) except Purdue for a full game. Sometimes they get pretty lathered up and impose their will upon the opposition, other times its a few nice runs, an incomplete pass, a 3rd and long and punt. The passing game, while not great is adequate and scoring drives often come with 1 or 2 nice passing plays for 20+ yards - but usually when the running game is clicking.

I'd rather write this than read it from someone else

Iowa does not get as many 4 and 5 star guys as LSU. We all know that. But once the 3 star guys get into the program they grow in to pretty good ball players. Ferentz has often said "the best chance we have against them (more talented team) is on the field. Often more than 1/2 the schedule is against "more talented teams".

Enjoy the game.

It's not like we have been giving up 200 yards to hobos. Even Arkansas is a top 25 rushing team.

funny little story - Ferentz called Saban. (cant post the video) "Ferentz said, You know I worked with Coach Saban in Cleveland, so I called him up and asked if I could borrow some of his players. " then went on to say, Alabama can wear down anybody once they get rolling.

If I were Chavis I would stack the box against the run and bring pressure up the middle. I like our ability to plays sideline to sideline. If we make them throw, I like our chances.

Iowa will throw it either way ... they like to keep a 50/50 run/pass ratio believe it or not. Rudock will come out throwing off play action right out of the gate IMO.

Not sure where the over confidence comes from. We lost to Ole Miss and could easily lose this game too.

What was Ole Miss in that game? +3 in turnovers? yeah, we could easily lose to pretty much anyone like that.

This team has relied on offense all season. Why are we worrying about defense now? We score 10 more points per game and give up only 4 more than them.

The "no-motivation" thing won't be a factor. So many (talented) underclassmen who are years away from the NFL are starting. And ready to cement their era at LSU.
And of course Landry gonna Landry.

If the turnovers are -1 or better this won't be very close.
Even if we pull "a Georgia" and don't make a stop basically all game - we win - assuming turnovers are a non factor.

I can't get over the fact that you people think we are going to pass all over a team with a freshman QB. What the hell are ya'll thinking. The guy has thrown 10 times the whole year and you think thats enough for him to be plugged into the offense and not have a problem. Les will pay for his stupidity of not playing back up qbs in mop up duty. I heard all this crap before the Ole Miss game, Loss. Hear it in the bowl game last year, Loss.

Les likes to pound the rock right? So, I expect LSU to slam it. And when they see its right, they'll go over the top.

I would not be surprised to see LSU attack the edges either - it may not be what you usually see, but Iowa's D Ends are not particularly fast, but the LBs are fast.

A good running game is a QB's best friend.

There are times for aggressiveness and pressure, and there are times for containment. I agree with you that this Iowa game is the perfect opportunity for LSU to man up their receivers and TEs, jam them at the LOS, and bring an extra defender into the box. However, the A&M game is not a very good example. While we pressured their receivers, we intentionally played a soft containment against their QB, sometimes giving him five seconds in the pocket. We need to pin our ears back when rushing Iowa.
