Team was coached well last night. Very smart with ball down the stretch.

Give credit where credit is due. JJ called a nice timeout to settle the team into an offensive possession while up about 10. We also worked the shot clock and were aware of the game situation down the stretch which hasn't always been the case.

I enjoyed watching our team close out a game the way its supposed to be done. Great job by the staff and also the players.

The team played with a lot of heart. JJ's biggest challenge, and one area where he deserves some criticism, is to get them to play like that against lesser competition.

I agree. I especially liked when Quarterman jacked up two horrible three attempts in the first half and it looked like JJ jumped his arse and pulled him out of the game.

If JJ coaches every game from here on out like he did last night, no one beats this team. They obviously have the talent.

Patterson being back gave them quite a lift. He was aggressive and even grabbed a few rebounds.

Was a very well coached game last night. Was a little surprised that we had Blakeney in over Hornsby the last 6 minutes or so, but besides that it is hard to fault a thing he did last night.

I am still worried about losing to lesser teams because he doesn't seem to be much of a motivator, but he made damn good calls offensively, defensively, and personnel-wise last night.

Happy for him and proud of him.

JJ was the best coach in college basketball last night, IMO.

Agreed. UK is the one team that gets Jones involved from the tip. He displays passion and energy on the sideline throughout the games against Kentucky. Obviously UK is going to get everyone's best shot, but you can tell that the team fed off of his passion last night. A far cry from his usual non-involved demeanor. I hope he can bring that same energy the rest of the SEC season.

It also helped to have guys like Simmmons, Patterson and Quarterman out there at the end of the game. All 3 generally understand game situations

For the first time since he has been here he has the depth to actually punish players for doing dumb things. Took TQ out for bad shot selection and even sat Benny for a while after picking up his second foul which was a dumb unnecessary foul.

He was impressive, dude is quick as lightning and was very confident out there.

I was too actually, especially since Blakeney missed several shots late (good shot selecting though). Point is he wasn't on fire and seems you'd want Hornsby in there but that's splitting hairs like you said.

I wouldn't fault him for that move. It was a trade off. Hornsby couldn't stay with Murray or Ulis and those were the only 2 guys that were going to beat us. He brought in Blakeney and Patterson's length to slow them down.

Human nature, but I get your point.

This surprised me, too, but I think JJ either saw that things were going well, generally, and decided not to upset the flow, or it had to do with Hornsby having a little more trouble guarding. I was nervous about it as it happened but it turned out beautifully. I suspect if it had gotten to FT's, Hornsby would have been inserted quickly.

I think it had more to do with how well Blakeney was playing defensively.

This. OP is right. JJ played his match-ups beautifully last night. But something else occurred to me when I had the same wondering about sitting Hornsby late: UK plays high energy with a lot of depth and just flat wears opponents out. JJ seemed to be cognizant of this with his rotations from the start. Granted, he was kind of forced to with Simmons, but JJ managed the match ups and breathers really effectively.

My 8 week old made her first tiger game ever, and she was into it last nite.

She must have been the good luck charm
