He can afford to play them at home against a horrible team that just started playing D-1A football. And they'll play a lot this year since they are rebuilding while getting the crap beat out of them.
Could not have said it better myself. No one is going to blame Kiffin for losses this year, so might as well get his own kids playing. If you are a Jr. or a Sr., a coach like Kiffin will screw you, because you will not be around in a few years when he is expected to have it all turned around. He's going to play his recruits.
Sort of like a male lion killing the cubs of the prior dominant male.

That's fine and dandy, but watch when they come up against older and more experience team. Let them get embarrass on a few plays then watch the meltdown.

Damn, there are some ignorant posts in this thread.
First, how did Kiffin try to run the score to 70 at the end of the game??? Did he throw a Hail-Mary into the end zone? No, the last play of the game was a handoff. Way to rub their noses in it coach.
Next, to insinuate he's playing freshmen because they are "his" guys, and screwing a junior or senior, is asinine.
Kiffin said every spot on the team is up for grabs, sans Eric Berry's. Our starting center, who was a senior, was beaten out by a walk-on.
Bryce Brown is the most talented back we have, but he did not start.
We started Marsalis Teague at WR due to depletion of our WR corp from injuries.
If a freshman is the best player, then he deserves to play. No one is saying you continue to start every freshman every year. However, as said before, if a freshman is the best player, then why in the hell would you not play him???
Case in point, in Jamal Lewis' freshman year, Fulmer started Mark Levine, a senior, that weighed about 170, against UF. He did it because Jamal "didn't know the blocking schemes." 2 weeks later, Jamal got the start against UGA, and lit them up for about 200 yards.

Sorry to chime in. I don't usually post on other teams boards but I saw a few misconceptions.
I don't know about that. Tennessee's defense ranked third in the country last year. Their offense was only bad because the players didn't understand it in their first year. Wide receivers didn't know what routes to run... the line wasn't protecting the quarterback. Hard for Crompton to make throws when he is getting hit and doesn't know where his wide receivers are going to be. Michigan had the same problem but as we all know, the offense works when you have the right players for the system. See West Virginia.
He pulled some of the starters. You have to remember that they went 5-7 last season and this is the first game these guys have played with Lane's pro style offense and Monte's Tampa(Tennessee?) 2 defense. You're going to fault him for preparing his players for UCLA and Florida the next two weeks?
I disagree. They don't have a ton of depth but they have talent and done an adequate job recruiting.

congrats to kiffin for trying to run the score up to 70 in the final seconds of the game. That was classless and glad he is not here at LSU.

UT blew donkey nuts last year. you tend to start/play a shitload of true freshman when you don't have hardly any other talent on your team.

Because UT hasn't recruited that well in the past umpteen years.
