My wife is taking me to my first Tiger Game this Saturday versus MSU! She went to LSU, but no longer has any friends that still live in Baton Rouge. Are there any public tailgate parties? Somewhere besides a bar that we could hang out, drink, enjoy the festivities i.e. team/band parade, walking Mike down, etc... She wants me to have the FULL experience my first game. Just a couple of high school teachers/coaches trying to make the most of our weekend in Tigerland. Any help would be appreciated.

Simple, get there early to avoid traffic. Wear GOLD! Bring a small, easy to carry cooler with beverages of choice. Walk around, enjoy the campus, the sights, the smells and introduce yourself to people. Long before kickoff, you will have been invited to join more than one tailgate and will probably have had all you can stand to eat and drink. Have fun!

Second that. Get there early and just carry a small cooler. Maybe stop in a tent where a game is playing on TV and tell them your situation. Most will be happy to have you join them. If you want to see campus I would go around dalrymple and the parade grounds. Watch the band warm up around 3 near the Greek amok theatre and then follow the band down to the stadium.

Last year was my first game and I did exactly what Houston said about the tailgate and everything was awesome.

Wear a shirt that says "will suck dick(s) for gumbo."

Like anything, be friendly. If you stop by my tailgate we have no problem treating fellow tiger fans as long as you're not an arse.

agree with pretty much everything posted...

need to get there early (no later than noon) so that you can park in a decent spot....

need to be careful where you park so that you can go in the right direction when you leave...

search up the gameday schedule to see when team & band come down the hill...I can send you all of the gameday info, if you have a junk e-mail that you want to post here...

if you know someone in TAF or the alumni association, there is a big tailgate in the PMAC, but you have to be a member to get in there...if you want to do that, your wife can join the alumni association online and bring the receipt...you will miss out most of the outside stuff if you do that, though...

as the others say, just be casual and cruise around...strike up some conversation and people will be very gracious...

You all have been very helpful. Thank you. We weren't going to drive, but rather use the ride sharing service über. Any thoughts on that? Hope to see you all out there. Keep an eye out for me. I'll be the drunk guy in the gold shirt yelling, "TIGER BAIT!"

For a TS virgin there is a lot to see. If you are a HS coach you will enjoy the team parade down Victory Hill and the TGBFTL following about 20 min later.

Make sure you get to your seats about 30 min before kickoff to take in the stadium and the pregame. Everything is scripted from 15:00 til kickoff and the LSU pregame has been complimented by all of the major sports press as one of the best in CFB. It will get your blood pumping by KO!
