Tyson lacks the burst of speed and change-of-direction agility as a DE in a 4-3 coming off the edge but should fare better playing a 5-tech in a 3-4 scheme. He can 2-gap, bump on inside on pass plays and with that large wingspan (almost 7 ft) he will cause some trouble disrupting passing lanes.
He does however need to get stronger and with he help of a good DL coach learn some new/better moves and techniques along with increasing quickness with his hands and footwork.

Im happy for Jackson. I think it's a bit of a reach taking him no.3 overall but, there's no doubt that he's gonna be a good pro. NFL scouts know what they're looking at, and there's a reason Jackson has been climbing up the big boards.
As for as far going no. 3 overall, well, right team at the right time for Jackson's sake.

Neither does NE. Remember Piolo is a Pats guy. Belichick loves LSU guys with Faulk, Green, Hill, Alexander, and Gay.

Where's the love for Rudy Niswanger?
I agree. The guy put medical school on hold, and fought his way into starting for the Chiefs. Played just about every position at LSU from tackle to tackle, or learned it as a back up before playing center. Great character and leader. Terrific ambassador for LSU.

The gross self-loathing of LSU fans never ceases to disgust me.
First, many posters here scoffed when Tyson was projected to be a first round draft pick several months ago.
Now that he has actually been selected with the third overall draft pick, some of those same posters are claiming that he was taken too high, as if their amatuer analysis is more informed or trenchant than that of the professional scouts who evaluate talent for a living.
Next, if Tyson doesn't immediately record 9 sacks in his first regular season game, the exact same posters will label him a "bust."

Tyson was selected that high because he fits just about perfectly as a 3-4 end. Those kinds of players are not easy to find.
Jackson does have flaws of course...but they go away for the most part when you put him as an end in the 3-4 scheme. Tyson never had a problem stopping the run. He never had a problem taking on blockers. The biggest issue he had was they he was an inconsistent pass rusher...something he will hardly be asked to do in the 3-4 scheme.
He is a DT/DE tweener. Most of those guys don't come with Jacksons skill set. If you are the Chiefs and your biggest need as you switch from a 4-3 to a 3-4 is a 3-4 end...and nobody wants to trade with you...you take the 3-4 end that is better then all the rest and call it a day.
