The NCAA’s research concluded that a typical home run ball will now travel 20 feet farther—even though the exit velocity is the same—because of less drag effect.

CWS batting average over the last four years: .239, .234, .237, .219. There were just three homers hit in each of the last two Series.

When Texas’ C.J Hinojosa hit the first one at the 2014 CWS, fans and media members reacted with a mixture of giddy incredulity and mocking laughter. College baseball’s biggest showcase had become a punchline.

quote:

I’ve heard the word ‘boring’ used so many times to describe last year’s College World Series,” Mainieri said a few months after his team was eliminated from the 2013 CWS. “And I hate to admit this because I’ve never used the word ‘boring’ to describe the game of baseball. But after we were eliminated and I was watching in the privacy of our living room, I turned to my wife and said, ’Is this game as boring as it seems to me?’ Every game was that way. We had a team era of 2.40 last year, and good for us, it led us to Omaha. But how is that different from hitting all those home runs in 1998?

MOAR GORILLA BALL!!!

People better temper expectations especially in the wind tunnel that instead of blowing out at Rosenblatt on a hill now blows in at TD Ameritrade, they will need to move fences in to effect Omaha

Offense should go up but don't expect homers to dramatically increase. OF will have to play deeper which will prevent all the singles being taken away. Will see more gap hits, doubles to drive in runs. Should not have to bunt runners over to 2nd and 3rd just to generate offense.

I wonder how often we'll hear Hawthorn talk about what the ball would have done last year like he did in 2011.

I really don't think the ball will make that big a difference. I hope I'm wrong, but I just don't see it.

I think the point it the game should have more excitement running up to CWS.

I want the new ball with the old bats.

But I'll be happy with the new ball.

I think the ball will make a difference at most ballparks. It will likely not make much of a difference at TD Ameritrade.

It is like having the Super Bowl on a 150 yard field and it takes 15 yards to make a first down.

the smoother ball should also have an effect on the amount of break that pitches have. That can also affect offense. It's always easier to hit something on a true course than one that's got a lot of break in it.

I'm wondering how this experiment will turn out. I think someone mentioned OF's having to play deeper. This may cause hitters to take some off their swing and bank the single or double which may be theirs for the taking. Ironically, it may not result in more Home Runs.

And will smoother balls result on more fielding and throwing errors? For the CWS, I also believe the difference will be negligible.

TD Ameritrade could allow 100 homes in the CWS every year and it wouldn't be as entertaining as years in Rosenblatt. There is no personality to the new Park. It's just a stadium.

Rosenblatt had life.

CWS will never be the same.

And get off my lawn. You'll never see your frisbee again.
