I am sure its been talked about to death on this board, but as a non-LSU fan, its driving me nuts each time I hear some pundit or anyone at all who actually questions if LSU will be hurt in playoff selection because of the McNeese State rainout.

Still seeing it to this day.

Seriously? Oh man, LSU went 13-0 or 12-1 and won the SEC, but wow since they didn't play against an FCS team in their opener that disqualifies them compared to other teams

There are far worse debates than that, though that's not a good one either

I know. He was so misused. He would have like 8 sacks a game.

If LSU goes 12-1 and wins the SEC Championship, the fact that they didn't play McNeese will have no bearing on whether they make the playoff or not. If they don't it's because there are other teams ALL of who are not in the SEC and all are probably undefeated. The odds of that are pretty long. Every other P-5 would have to have an undefeated team or 3 of them plus Notre Dame.

the problem is outlets like ESPN are too much into presentation and not facts. If they would just freaking come out and say what the issue could be this would be much less of a debate and more of a shoulder shrug. But they want to over-dramatize it.

The only REAL issue is that several rankings, people and "computers", that the committee REFERENCES go by "win%". So if, for example, Oregon is 12-1 and LSU is 11-1, Oregone will have a higher %. This is the number behind the whole "no championship game" thing that hurt the Big 12.

So on one hand, it might have come into play in year 1 of the new playoff with Baylor/TCU (there are other factors, like who one head-2-head vs record). So the ASSUMPTION is that it could come into play with LSU.

Except LSU has one thing going for it- the SEC. Winning or getting to the SECCG washes away all that. Big 12 didn't have that advantage. So I say this is all drama and bad assumptions (or skewed assumptions to fit the narrative/ratings).

ETA: only way this hurts us if Jeff Long and Archie Manning use it for an excuse to leave us out. But that's an excuse, not a reason.

well, i'll be amazed if they go 13-0 or 12-1 since they only play 12 games including the championship.
