I was talking about drunk fans.
I would guess that most basketball fans aren't drunk (in comparison to football.)
Back between 1989-92, when Jackson/Shaq, etc. were here and camping out for games was a regular thing, there were a ton of drunk students coming into the games. And those drunk students said/did things that were not very classy. The Laettner/homosexual chant has already been mentioned. The Florida/tennis balls being thrown at Dwayne Schintzius (RIP) has been mentioned as well. That was during the same era. They would open the doors and let the students in 2 hours before tipoff back then, and those two hours leading up to the game often were cringeworthy due to what the drunkards might say or do. For a while, it was a thing that if a female student was walking up the aisle before the game, many of the male students would chant "show your tits"...loud enough for the whole arena to hear. So crassness is not limited to this generation, for sure. Doesn't make it RIGHT though.

I'll concede that students may come to hoops drunk but the rest of the fan base, not so much.
As I posted earlier, I don't care what they say but I don't want it broadcast on national TV. It was loud and clear.
Turns out that the FU bit them in the arse with the OU comeback. Trash talk should be saved for later.

When the dumbass students chanted "overrated" when OU was warming up PREGAME, I wanted to go over and whip all of their asses. Fortunately the chant was very short-lived.

It's because of all the participation trophies they give out these days.

Agreed. They should've said "Hey frick you Buddayyyy!"

First, let me say I'm a student not some crotchety old man.
Than act like it. First and foremost, never admit you're wrong. If when confronted; take it to the grave.
And if a little vulgarity at a college basketball game gets under your skin; then you truly have a mangina. Grow some nuts or if and when you have children; they will be pussies competing yearly for a participation trophy.

You really think a frick you chant coming across the tv is acceptable? Because it absolute is not and the students should be held accountable. It's not funny. I'm all for being rowdy but don't embarrass the university in the process.

Why dont you ask the university if the students embarrassed them instead of just assuming

Bet you didn't even go to LSU. You know why I think that? Because students have been acting classless for about a hundred damn years. It's what college students do.
You are wrong on both accounts. I did attend LSU and we did not sing vulgar songs at every football game. The occasional bullshite chat...that's been happening for a long time. If being classless is a right for college students then I pity you

Idiocracy on display.

So you yelling bullshite is ok when you were a student, but saying frick isn't. Got it.
It's funny because I can tell who went to the game and who didn't. It was so loud in the pmac that you couldn't really make out what they were yelling. You think ESPN cares AT ALL that the students did that? Nope, because worst case scenario people are talking about it. It was louder because they put mics right by the student section

Not to mention it happens at almost all the big venues for college sports.
People get offended too easily.

I didn't say it was ok to chant bullshite loud enough for the networks to cut sound but it happened. It's just that the passion we have for our team has to be kept in perspective. It's becoming too common to see things going on that aren't family-friendly. The university is for the young adults benefit but it is supported by the families.

I disagree... I remember exactly what was yelled at Florida State back in the early 80s during their warchant.... we were just as guilty back then as the students today are. Do y'all want to bring up the oranges that we threw in Tiger Stadium??
The thing that we didn't think about as students that we do now as older parents and grandparents is the fact that there are children at the games. As students we were young and emotional in our cheering and didnt worry about who heard us. Nothing wrong with the strong emotions at the games.
I can't be critical of the students like some of you are right now because that would be hypocrisy. Is it right? No, but remember it wasn't much different before you throw out insults at our current students.

Agreed, we were awful in the 80s. I got ejected from the Notre Dame game for cursing out Buddy D. He didn't do anything to me but he was in earshot and he had said something the week leading up to the game. They took my student ID and I had to go see Dean Blimling the next week. I was drunk and pissed cause we were gonna lose the game. Let my emotions at a young age get the best of me. We all grow up but this happens at all the other big time schools. It's kids being kids.
Also I have 2 boys now, and I can only tell them to learn from my mistakes, but when you are young you think you know it all sometimes and like I said its part of growing up
