Damn I was thinking there was no way he doesn't come to LSU. He even made it sound that way. 1st round money???? The Pirates?!?!

Are they not signing any of their Top 5 round picks or something?

If you are a pitcher who can do anything right, then either the Pirates or Nationals organizations are perfect for you. First, you have a great shot at making the big leagues within 3 years max, and also once you get to those teams, particularly Shitsburgh, you have a great shot at getting traded to a contender really quick. I wish ZVR the best and I will be rooting for him- no one player is bigger than LSU baseball, and we will be just fine without him.

I'm glad you're a lot more positive than I am because I was thinking championship with him in the weekend rotation. Don't know who goes there now.

I'd be fine if Mainieri just didn't even sign Top 10 round guys anymore. They are just way too risky like this.

Well, I happen to believe in PM and our coaches, and from what we saw from this past season, someone will step up their game and take this team a long way. I am hoping that Ross can learn from his mistakes and become a very quality starter for us. AR will be fantastic and will be getting our weekend series off to a great start. The Sunday starter is the issue, IMO. I just think that someone is gonna step up and grab that spot.

A good pitcher. Probably not as good, but still good. Other teams are not loading up on better talent. We will be fine.

Would of had a great shot again this year right off the bat with Von Rosenberg in the rotation though. You have those 2 great quality pitchers you need to get through the CWS. Now our rotation is a big question.

Ott was arguably a nobody and became exactly what we needed. Someone else will fill the ZVR void.

i dont see why people keep saying this

the Pirates are prob the most poorly ran franchise in baseball.

why would u want to play for them?

as a young pitcher, who may happened to get called up early(for his sake i hope not), do you know how emotional draining it is to play for a shitty team? Esp if he is pitching good???

and people keep saying, "he'll get traded to a contender anyway"......Uhhh no, there is a good chance he doesnt get traded. They are trying to build from the bottom up...they arent trading prospects....they are trading veterans to GET prospects.

I don't think this has a huge impact on the 2010 team. Ranaudo is Ranaudo. Bradshaw will be a quality starter imo. Hopefully Ross gets things worked out. We have enough arms to be really good with a true ace and a proven bullpen. We'll need some second year guys to step up, like a Matulis or Reidie.

However, losing ZVR and possibly Colvin would hurt us more in 2011 and 2012 as they are two guys you could have built a staff around and depended on (like we have done with Ranaudo).

Actually the "making the big leagues within 3 years max" line is a big stretch, but he did make the right decision.

I can't believe you guys are surprised that ZVR is signing with Pittsburgh. That dude had going pro written all over him. His talk about LSU was just that....talk. And that was to get Pittsburgh to keep raising their price until they eventually signed him.

Because playing for a "poorly run franchise" is like having a green light to the big leagues. They mis-manage their talent, bring their players through their system too quickly to see what they can do in the big leagues only to trade them away to a contender if they do become halfway decent.

On the other hand, playing in a top-notch franchise's farm system, it could take longer to get to the big leagues due to the talent in front of you.

Wow sounds like you were crowning him the best LSU pitcher ever before he even got on campus......who's to say he would have even been in the rotation? AR wasn't in the weekend rotation his freshman year. One man does not make a team!!!

naw, things are changing.

they are trying to acquire prospects, not trade them. Pretty easy to see.

I believe AR was recovering from surgery the majority of his freshman year.

Epic Fail!!! ZVR does...

Look, it is what it is- ZVR is headed to the dreadful Pirates system, and LSU baseball will be just fine without him.

BTW, that's ALL franchises like Crapsburgh do is acquire prospects through bad trades, and once those prospects become anything at all they trade them to someone else. It would REALLY, REALLY suck wind to be a fan of the Pirates, and that's all I have to say about it...

Good luck ZVR
