How are they still getting this stat wrong? Here, ESPN again wrongly states that OBJ is 2nd in the SEC because they aren't including the missed field goal return, YET they mention the field goal return in the same sentence. This article is only hours old.

"Beckham, who is second in the SEC with 251.5 all-purpose yards per game, has already touched the ball as a rusher, receiver, punt returner and kicker returner -- plus he returned a missed UAB field goal 100 yards for a touchdown last weekend."

Probably shouldn't bother me so much, but it does because this implies that 1st in the SEC is Jones from Bama. Even if his 256 was in only one game, he is still 2nd right now to OBJ.

Why doesn't it count as a 109yds since he started from the back of the end zone?

Because they only recognize 100 yards as in play.

Because a FG return does not count towards All Purpose Yards.

Yeah that's the collegiate rule where as in the NFL they would count it as 109.

It does now. In direct response to LSU asking the NCAA why the 100 missed field goal return was not included, the NCAA added a new category to the all-purpose yards calculation called "miscellaneous" to capture those types of plays. Official NCAA stats include Beckham's return.

He leads in total yards not yards per game. Jones has only played one game

Ok, because as of Sunday, it was my understanding that Beckham had not been credited eith those 100 yards. Was that incorrect?

Wrong.

People....he leads both categories.

He's averaging 301 YPG.
Jones is around 256 "YPG", even though its technically one game.

It is included in the NCAA stats ... NCAA

It is not included yet in the stats provided by the SEC website.

9 of those yards are irrelevant. If he ran it 8 yards then kneeled it wouldn't be an 8 yard return.

This is incorrect. Your own end zone is definitely "in play", otherwise, there wouldn't be safeties in football.

If a player attempts to run the ball out of his own end zone, but is tackled before making it out, it's a safety.

Furthermore, the NCAA recognizes 108 yds as the longest kick return and 108 yds for the longest punt return.
