Agree with your post Hitman. The thing I like most about Stevan is when hit he always falls forward. Don't know if I have ever seen that kid go backwards. Constantly tries to get that extra yard. He sort of reminds me of Hester with that kind of effort. I have also heard that he is a good receiver out of the backfield. He is only a RS freshman so maybe that's why he is not seeing the field more. Have also heard he may be used in the future like Hester, ala TB and FB. And yes, that kid is a legend up here in the sticks of MS.

You know I'm a little concerned that Moffit might be having an adverse affect upon our running backs. They seem to be awesome prospects, do well as Frshmen and Sophs, but then by the time they are juniors, they look bulky and slow. We saw this with Vincent, and now KW is looking this way too.

I guess we haven't had a problem with Scott because he was more stocky to begin with....

Thoughts?

Interesting hypothesis, and I have noticed the same of LSU's RB after a few years in the training room, and wondered the same before.

As for Stevan Ridley, if practicing is a true indicator of playing well, then Miles has him buried too far down the seniority/ranking scale, because Ridley, despite having positives mentioned about him by his HC constantly, rarely gets carries, yet at practice is an absolute beast, and always requires two to take him down, he shreds in scrimmages and practice. Like all RBs you gotta hang onto the ball, don't know if this is an issue or not?

A few thoughts. Guys, this kid can throw the ball 60 yards in a tight spiral without "heaving" it, kick it 60 yards into the end-zone half the time, and has the best set of hands that he played some point guard in basketball. He has a very mature frame for a soon to be 20 year-old, and the bulking and loss of speed that occurs when the 190-195 lb kid turns into a 220 lb "man" will not happen with him since he was 205 as a junior and 215 as a senior in high school. But I think the problem with guys like Vincent and Broussard was not the weight they put on and the loss of speed, but the lack of motivation once they tasted success. Stevan has a unique quality, his drive to excel, that sets him above other skilled college running backs. Stevan has had a target on his jersey since ninth grade. Everyone around him was either wanting or expecting him to succeed (his coaches, fans, and teammates) or hoping he would fail and embarass himself (the others.) Everyone was watching. Stevan realized it and developed a work ethic in high school that we now all see the results, his red-shirt freshman year. But the coaches are going to give first chance to the other backs, (#5 and #26) this year. I do not expect Stevan to get alot of chances to excel this year (unless there are some serious injuries.) Seniority means something. But not next year.

He has looked very good in limited time but i dont believe anyone should be bashing richard murphy..he runs hard for not being a prototypical "big" back and he is extremely slippery when he is in the open field. bottom line is we have 3 good backs and 1 great one..theres no reason to nitpick

I also like the way Murphy runs, as a chang-up to the downhill running of Scott and hopefully Ridley. The odd man out in my mind is Williams. He has not lived up to his 5-star status...not this year or last (no matter what SFP says). He does not seem to like contact, he hits slowly, he rounds for the sideline, etc.

Ridley looks like he has passion for the game, and he seems to want to punish tacklers. He is a lot like Scott, and I think Scott is the best tailback we have had since Kevin Faulk
