A few were taking them in the early 80's on the team when i played. There were two kinds floating around if memory serves well something like (anvar and dinaball). It was straight up steroids the same being used by the body builders in school.
By the 90's, it was more than just a cpl of players per team. The Dominicans had been on them for years previous to the 80's.
Talking about playing against a stacked deck as an infielder.

Prohormones are still widely available. Not sure why you all are saying these things are banned?

Not saying they are all banned. But the prohormones from the 90s and those today are different. A lot of those prohormones from the 90s are now banned.

Didn't Larson hit like 8 or 10 HRs in juco the year before hitting 40 for us?

Seems legit.

I would say everyone of them.

96 team had one guy I knew of for certain...maybe 2 more but that's it (that was a really clean cut bunch of guys for the most part).
97 team had more (JUCO influx) but no more than 5/6 (yes, Larson was obviously one of them).
If you think it was this rampant use of steroids on those 2 teams, you're just wrong.
Those teams took a ton of creatine & androstendione.
But the bats were the main reason the numbers were so different.

FYI....the very late 80s/early 90s teams had guys that were doing it too.

Agreed. It's funny when people just lump the 90s prohormones, the prohormones today, and creatine all in one catagory like they are all the same.

I'd be willing to bet most of the guys today still run a cycle in the off season. Maybe not straight up testosterone, put at least something like Epistane.

In the 90's, steroids were all over Baton Rouge. I knew so many guys who were jacked on the stuff, it was unreal. I have no idea who or how many players were taking it back then, but you can bet the house that there were some using it. They'd be stupid not to in a time period where it's not being tested.

When your goal is to make it to the next level and you can help your performance by doing it, why wouldn't you?
Steroids aren't nearly as bad as they are made out to be if used correctly. It's when they are abused that problems occur.

You hear about all the health concerns involving steroids. Where are the body bags? Who died other than Lyle Alzado, who was taking way too much stuff at his age trying to make an unrealistic comeback. None of my body builder friends are any sicker than anyone else i know.

Its like marijuana, again not my thing, but who's dying?
Alcohol and Cigarettes?
