You do this and you’ll start dealing with top recruits and parents having second thoughts about playing for JJ along with negative recruiting when battling over major prospects.

Yup. CJJ has said this in interviews on multiple occasions. I’ll take his word over the rantards.

Says the guy making $42K with no comprehension of the professional, life changing position Skenes is in.

You’re assuming LSU is in the game late.

Eh it kind of is. You don’t want the reputation of running your guys into the ground. Soon there won’t be any guys wanting to play for you,

I completely agree that Jay has to factor this in. It’s real. But I know that he not only wants to win a national championship, he wants to win a national championship with THIS team.

How does he balance those responsibilities out? If you think he can give you 40 pitches and you wait till the 8th or 9th, it may be too late. It could be 5-2 by then. Can you live with losing knowing the best pitcher in program history sat there on the bench with 40 pitches left in his arm? On the flip side, if you start Skenes with the plan of him giving you 50 pitches, and at pitch 50, it’s 0-0 after 4 and he is still pumping an easy 100 and says he feels great, can you take him out? I think the best thing for LSU is to start him and make sure you get whatever he’s got while you know the game still matters. But I think the best thing for Jay is to hold him so he doesn’t put himself in the position to even be tempted to go more than the plan.

Regardless, I don’t envy Jay, Paul, or anybody involved in that decision. Best case is Hurd starts and shoves long enough to let the bats eat and grab a 5-6 run lead, hand it to Cooper/Herring for a few, and then let Skenes finish the 9th blowing 100 straight up their donkeys to win the NC. Let’s see how real life plays out, though.

this is the way

If Skenes really can’t go for long and if the shadows at game time are a pitcher’s advantage, start the 2nd best arm available, then move to Skenes later after the lighting advantage shifts to the batters.

Was at the game today and saw Skenes throw a full warmup and all his normal, running cones, drills, etc. I refuse to believe he’s doing that to not pitch tomorrow. And has already been mentioned, him starting is the only logical thing. Bednar from state had a no hitter through six on three days rest. He won’t be 100%, but his 70% is still amazing. Between him and Hurd, I feel very confident LSU can get 7-8 innings and allow Cooper to close.

3 starts in 10 days is a lot. Not saying he isn’t starting tomorrow. I think he is. We don’t have much else that gives us a chance. Just don’t think he goes very long.

If Skenes pitches, he needs to start off in my opinion.

Skenes didn't pitch a ton prior to LSU. He threw a total around 30 innings as a Freshman. He threw 85 innings last season. Not a ton of wear on him, IMO. He should be in great shape.

This. Let this sink in for a minute......The year Ben set the K record at LSU, including the innings he threw for the Olympic team, he threw more innings than Skenes has thrown in his whole career.

You won't have to, he will do it himself. Skenes is going to take the ball and pitch and if he can't go 9 innings he's gonna be pissed. Only way he comes out of the game is if he shows signs of obvious fatigue and he can no longer get outs.

Everyone is talking about his future and the money blah blah....Just think about if he goes 9 inning shutout tmr for the championship how much money he could get.

If Hurd and Skenes are on pitch counts, I would pitch backwards with Skenes being the closer. If Hurd can go 4 or 5 innings, let him start.

wake barreled up a few of Hurds pitches. I worry that he has one of his unsure starts and it goes south. He's been great out of the pen since being moved there. If Skenes is able and is willing to go, you start him and let it ride.

He doesn’t have to pitch until his arm falls off, but tonight’s game is no riskier somehow than any other game he has ever pitched or will ever pitch.

Where was the concern for his MLB future when he was pitching back in March? How come no one is concerned that he might blow his arm out pitching against the St. Louis Cardinals someday?

If his arm is going to explode on the mound one day, only God knows when it will happen. Nothing LSU does tonight will hasten that occurrence.

Many of the runs Florida scored were due to defensive lapses or off pitchers that otherwise had no business being in a CWS game other than to eat up innings in a blowout. The good thing about a strikeout pitcher like Skenes as that it reduces the chances for errors. It can also cause your own lineup to lose it's sense of urgency, knowing they don't need to score a lot to win.

I'd like to see Skenes in the bullpen to start the game. That puts a lot of pressure on Florida to produce early. You saw how relaxed Florida was at the plate once their lead ballooned yesterday. If you start Skenes and we continue to struggle scoring, Florida will do everything to extend at bats and run up his pitch count so if we have to pull Skenes in a close game, it's a big psychological monentum shite to Florida.

In a perfect world I would too but if you are gonna pitch him you should let him stay in his starting routine. He has said it before he doesn’t like coming out of the pen. If you have him in the pen to close the way Florida played yesterday the score will be a non factor and he is not gonna be used.
