I was in law school at LSU with one of his receivers at Northeast. I know that they won a naitional championship, hell he had a ring. Meet him a few times really nice guy, but from the stories that I heard over the years he made Stabler look like a choir boy man. Arnsberger would have never put up with all the crap they pulled. He was a north Louisiana boy through and through. Really good guy though.

He played 3rd base and sponsored our softball team when I was 18-20. He started coaching at NLU and quit, but still sponsored us for a while. Great guy, very down to Earth.

I never heard any stories about him on the party scene, but I've heard some stories about him when he was coaching at ULM and OCS. From what I heard, he doesn't give a shite.

I think he's now doing some radio for ULM.

Actually that's an indoor stadium...not a dome...more of a hangar design but not a tent. They get snow up thar!

stan is a very good guy. i've met him several times - stand up fellow. i never asked him but i heard from a good friend of his this is how it went:

arnsbarger: i hear you're not going to class.
humphries: i'm the starting quarterback for lsu. i don't have to go to class.
arns: not any more you're not.

game over.

You probably know this arleady, but just clarify the point. Stan NEVER started at LSU...don't recall that he even got in a game...may have, but I don't recall that he did.

strong (and correct) point.

i might not remember correctly but i think that he (stan) was referring to his status going in to the next season - that he knew/figured/assumed he would be starting qb.

My grandparents were friends with his parents and as a junior high student I use to wait for him outside the locker room after games with my cousin. He would walk with us to his parents motorhome parked behind Alex Box staduim. I don't think he ever played and then left I believe after one year.

stopped off in Sal's last year with Rusty Haile who played with Humphries on the Championship team at Northeast. Sal is looking old.
