he did it because his passion was to work sports business, and at the time he was aiming of eventually being an AD somewhere. But, things took off for him in pro sports. He may eventually make the jump to college, but he's making hay right now.

When I hear "it was a war out there" I feel like they are totally disrespecting the military. When I hear that Brees is a real "field general" I get images of Patton in my head and become so ANGRY

I heard that Brees did slap Sean Payton in the hospital bed. He told him to get his candy arse out of that bed that was for real players. He told Payton to get back on the sideline where he belonged.

Well! It's what I heard.

I understand your point, however I think your issue is with the English Language.
quote:

bat·tle/'batl/ Noun: A sustained fight between large, organized armed forces.
Verb: Fight or struggle tenaciously to achieve or resist something: "he has been battling against the illness".

quote:

war noun /wôr/ wars, plural A state of armed conflict between different nations or states or different groups within a nation or state - Japan declared war on Germany - the two countries had been at war for six years A particular armed conflict - after the war, they emigrated to America A state of competition, conflict, or hostility between different people or groups - she was at war with her parents - a price war among discount retailers A sustained effort to deal with or end a particular unpleasant or undesirable situation or condition - the authorities are waging war against all forms of smuggling - a war on drugs

The issue you have is multiple definitions for the same term. I actually think these are good descriptive terms. The English language is about context, and taking words out of context and basing an argument on it.
Are you a politician?

I am an Iraq War Veteran. While I think that comparing a sporting event to battle is an overstatement it does not bother me.

George Carlin said it best...
Football
quote:

In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.

Baseball
quote:

In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! "I hope I'll be safe at home!"
