Article also says it's a "prove it" year.
I agree.
I agree.

I agree.
Without a doubt.

Same group will say he is the 10th best in the SEC in a future article.

Not disagreeing with you but I feel like every year we say it's a "prove it year".

May be, but our staff as a whole is #1 or #2

Looks about right. I think you can make an argument that the MSU HC is ranked too high, but others look about right.
Big year for CLM, put up (win) or shut up (time to walk). Pretty straightforward with the returning talent, favorable home schedule, coaching staff, recent recruiting class, etc. Just Win Baby!

If you look at just the SEC, they rate him as the second best coach in the conference. The next closest is Hugh Freeze five spots down.

If you have not won a national title or a few conference titles you should not be in the top 10

Looks like Miles is doing something right.
Is a Sporting News ranking our metric now for evaluating coaches?

I posted cbs as well. Does it bother you that people that get paid to evaluate sports has something good to say about a LSU coach?

Not at all. I just think rankings in general are pretty much meaningless.

We are on a lsu sports message board. If you want to discuss the ins and outs of Aranda's scheme then start a thread. There arent many topics to discuss right now outside of subjective subjects or future play.

It's fine to discuss it. I think it's erroneous to draw any conclusions from it.

I think, on an overall basis, les miles is most definitely a top 10 coach. the last 4 years have brought him down to that, imo. for one thing, you have a large body of work to evaluate him and some newbie with one or two good years shouldn't be top 10 yet. a lot of these "ratings" hinge on recent success and some are just plain biased (Athlon).
top 10 has some very impressive coaches. I think many people don't realize how few "top" coaches there really are.

None of that matters if he delivers a championship this season, he will be paid 7mm and will remain at LSU until he decides to step down.

Thats what the point of the thread was for. Its a subjective topic that changes from person to person.

This is truer than every other year, most of the time people are just being stupid.
Advantages that no recent years have had all in the same year
- No year of a billion early exits to the NFL
- A returning QB with over a year of experience
- A legit top 5 DC
- A legit heisman contender in his junior year at RB
- Based on rankings the fourth most talented roster of the past 4 years (in the country). That's a full cycle of kids for programs that don't redshirt much.
- 97% of offensive production returns, defense brings back all but 2 full time starters (I don't count Louis as a full time starter, and I could go even further as Jefferson started half the year before Mills came back).
Reasons why it's a must win year (SEC West, SEC title, playoff contention)
- Four straight 3+ loss seasons with back to back losses vs Arkansas
- 0-5 vs Bama since TGOTC win
- Hasn't won the division in 4 years
- Has finished 3rd, 5th, 4th, in own division the past 3 years
- In the last two years alone we have lost 5 games by more than 2 TDs
- He was almost fired last year after 3 straight pathetic losses and struggled to a win vs a TAMU team that was also pretty poor.
On the surface it seems like he is pulling out all the stops for this one season.

" Is the sporting news ranking our metric now for evaluating coaches?"
Well, when their ranking Parallels along with LSU being the 2nd ranked School in power five conference football for wins and the second ranked School for conference wins in the SEC during a coaches tour of duty, I think it's a fair metric to use in evaluating coaches. Throw in the fact that LSU has it been to two National championship games under miles, I am hard pressed to find five more productive coaches currently much less 10.
