|Can you expand on why you are optimistic?|

I think Coach O will get an OC that can develop QBs and run an offense that doesn't try to run up the middle of Bama's defensive line. We are good with Aranda on defense. I just think Miles was stuck on an offensive strategy that played to Bama's strengths. I don't think that Coach O is the dummy that a lot of people seem to think he is. He can recruit and motivate players, the importance of which we shouldn't underestimate. I am looking for a good hire on special teams. I am optimistic on the future of LSU football but if things do not turn out the way I expect, I will still be a Tiger fan. A proud Tiger fan.

Fair enough. I think that he will be gone in 3 yrs max after failing miserably. But I also will still be a Tiger fan. Hope I'm wrong, but chances are slim

This is why you don't hire someone with Ed Os HC record. It clearly demonstrates that he doesn't have the 'big picture' mentality

He let Pomansky steer him toward a different offense, and Bam! he loses grip on the best QB recruit we've had in a decade

Thanks J(ackass) Alleva. Nice search

You're making the most logical point about star rating not mattering, but it falls on deaf ears. Year over year we see 4 and 5s not meet expectations and 2 and 3s become superstars, you are right, but no one wants to accept that reality. Its not sexy to lose out on high school celebrities.

49% of all 5* players make it the nfl
By far the biggest % of recruiting rankings.
Great recruiting classes lead directly to winning and championships.

By running the same gameplan as miles did in 2015? Did you watch the last 2 bama games?

I'll help you out here, the percentages is what matters here. A higher % of 4 and 5 stars make it to the pros.

By far the most.

If you stop to think about the recruiting sites do a great job on picking 5*.
Each year about 1200 kids are recruited to FBS programs and the sites pick 30-35 5* stars and 49 % of those make it to the nfl.

Picking 30 kids out of 1200 and being right on 50% of them is astounding.

The true story behind all of this.

https://www.shreveporttimes.com/story/sports/college/lsu/2016/11/26/lsu-commits-weigh-coach-hiring/94479896/

quote:

Deculus is ranked as the No. 9 offensive tackle in the class and No. 38 overall

quote:

Austin Deculus, a four-star Under Armour All-American offensive tackle, told USA TODAY Sports on Saturday that he was “looking for backup” when word came that LSU might be looking for someone other than Orgeron, but that changed with the announcement.

“Honestly my commitment was on the fence when LSU fired Les, but when Coach O got moved to the position I was more than happy,” he said. “Then all this talk of hiring someone else as head coach had me looking for backups, but now knowing it’s official that he’s head coach I’m back to 100 percent on my commitment.

Also has quotes from Grant Delpit, Kary Vincent, Myles Brennan, and JaCoby Stevens - the highest-ranked recruit in the LSU class.

Give the man time to implement his system with his players.
What is it?

Two months ago he wanted a Pro-Style Passer, now he says he wants a DT to run a Spread.

Red Flags are now flying.

Better not lose a passing talent like Brennan because of that "Lose lips sink Ships" comment.

Recruiting is the back bone of any program.. I remember back in the days of the late 80,s all the 2 & 3 star player Curley Hallman brought into LSU. How did that work out for Ole Curley??

Wrong coach. That was Archer bringing in those recruits in late 80's. Curley was 1991-1994.

O was a great recruiter when he was convincing players to play for Jimmy Johnson, Paul Pasquoloni, Pete Carroll, a young Lane Kiffin

Yep. Everyone pumps up his classes at OM, but they fail to look at the actual recruiting rankings. He was in par with what Cutcliffe had already been doing, and not as good as Nutt and Freeze. Maybe he's not the best recruiter in the universe?

The excuses are already out in full force, it's going to be a fun next 5 years hearing it all.

Whether the OP likes it or not, recruiting rankings and 'stars' are a VERY good indication of how talented your team is.

O is going to lose some recruits, I figured as much. He was a failed HC at his last stop, a lot of kids are going to look at that as a huge red flag.

Maybe O doesn't want brennan, that's possibke, but if he can't land Moses and allen, that's a failure given his God like recruiting ability.

Wow...coach o was the head of recruiting dude. You don't think he had influence over recruits up until this point? The whole sell on O was CONTINUITY. If recruits are leaving that's not a good sign.

Did you know guys like Ruben Randle and Terrance Magee played qb in hs and actually had better passing stats than Shepard? Dude was never playing qb.

O had been known as a great recruiter as an assistant coach. I would think it would be different when you are the head coach. As an assistant you are essentially recruiting for someone else- someone else's system. Now he's gotta sell it differently- he's selling for himself and frankly that is probably harder to do. He's got to convince a player that he's smart enough to be the man in charge. That's probably not an easy task.

Lau should recruit nothing but 3* players Miles didn't want then. Miles was a horrible recruiter and O is a savant at recruiting
