Even though, the Red Sox are filthy. They purposely draft NCAA Seniors and sign them for peanuts because they don't have an negotiating leverage.

Example, they drafted Kyle Kraus was drafted in the 7th round in 2012 and signed for $1,000. Mike Miller,9th round in 2012, signed for $5,000. It is a shitty way to do business but they have found a way to sign everyone they draft.

Every team does this. It used to be college seniors always got picked super late because they had zero leverage and could be signed for cheap. Now they get picked higher for the exact same reason. It's not dirty it's just smart use of the pool money.

Nope, it is dirty. From the business side, sure it is a good idea. But from the other end, it isn't. The teams that operate like this are spitting in the faces of these kids. Seniors should not be punished for staying in school because that is where this is leading. Kids will sign early and often to avoid being screwed by this mentality.

What ever happened to drafting the best available and paying them what they should be worth?

Every team does this. The seniors aren't getting screwed. They're getting drafted and paid what they're worth. If they were really big time prospects they'd be getting drafted higher. If it was the old system the seniors who are getting drafted in the top ten because the teams know it's a pick they can save money on, would be getting drafted in the late rounds and paid just the same.

As of now, they have 28 total unsigned picks, including a 4th rounder and the remaining amount they can spend without penalty is 1.3MM on ALL of them.

This is not correct. They still have the pool value of the 4th round pick, which is over 400k, and 875k in savings which gives them 1.3 to sign the 4th round pick and any over slot deals for players outside of the top 10 rounds.

If those unsigned players outside the top 10 rounds sign for 100k or less, or do not sign at all, it has zero impact on their pool amount.

The 4th round pick could go unsigned causing them to lose the value from their pool (over 400k) and they would still have enough savings from others to give Longhi a big bonus.

And seniors aren't being screwed. They're getting the same money they've always gotten. That's what has to be taken into account when you decide to return for your senior season.

He must have been desperate for fast money. If he has a college degree worth anything, that's probably less than his first week's paycheck in the work force.

It's the old Branch Rickey philosophy: scoop up a handful of rocks and once you've culled the handful, there will be a diamond or two at the bottom.

Translation: the studs in your system have to have SOMEBODY to play with/against.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I THINK I remember the guys on MLB Radio saying that if you lose or gain picks from FA signings your pool doesn't change. They were pretty worked up about it but I was busy and only half paying attention.

If true, that makes zero sense. You compensate a team for losing a FA, and at the same time you effectively strain their pool budget.
