Although a Big 12 or SEC team has reached the BCS championship game in eight of the 10 years it has existed (the Big 12 has won it twice, the SEC three times), they have met only at the end of the 2003 season, when LSU beat Oklahoma, 21-14. And that one, by all accounts, was a very flawed Oklahoma team, with an injured quarterback and a last-game loss that the computers inexplicably did not weigh significantly.

excuses excuses excuses.

i will agree the big 12 looks like the best conference. but then why does their best team always lose in bowl games against good competition? except for 05 of course.

Don't be fooled. The media is setting up another Big 12 lovefest so when OU rolls through it will make the pounding they get by USC look that much better. They understand that no SEC team will come out without at least one loss and this is an effort to put the SEC down for the future one -loss comparisons. Make not mistake that OU/USC is what the media wants to see.

no credibility to anyone who reports sports but makes a mistake like saying that the sec has 3 bcs titles. tenn in 98, lsu in 03, 07 and florida in 06. sad thing is, people read that shite and think its gospel.

Oklahoma: real deal
Texas Tech: yet to play a ranked team
Texas: yet to play a ranked team
Mizzou: beat Illinois, have they played a real defense?

OU and Mizzou will expose Texas two weeks in a row. Tech will be embarrased by OU (and prolly get week in the knees at home against UT). Mizzou will likely coast through an easy schedule, only to be thrashed by OU in the conference championship.

Sure the Big 12 is good, but saying they are better than the SEC is getting ahead or ourselves.

Picking a Big 12-SEC Fantasy series

Just for grins, here's how I'd break down a fantasy series between the Big 12 and SEC — played at neutral sites, of course:

* Oklahoma vs. Alabama — Advantage Big 12
* Missouri vs. LSU — Advantage Big 12
* Texas vs. Georgia — Pick 'em
* Texas Tech vs. Florida — Pick 'em
* Oklahoma State vs. Vanderbilt — Advantage Big 12
* Kansas vs. Auburn — Advantage Big 12
* Nebraska vs. Kentucky — Pick 'em
* Colorado vs. Tennessee — Pick 'em
* Kansas State vs. Arkansas — Advantage Big 12
* Iowa State vs. Ole Miss — Advantage SEC
* Texas A&M vs. South Carolina — Advantage SEC
* Baylor vs. Miss State — Pick 'em

This is wrong on so many levels.

The big 12 is in a peak year and the SEC is in a down year, but from top to bottom, the SEC is still the best team. The Playsation 2 style offenses that Big 12 teams run put up some shiny numbers against those nobody teams, but that wouldn't fly in the SEC.

How about we wait 'till the Little Twelve gets more into conference play?

Their signature wins so far are OU beating an overrated TCU team and a weak Cincy team. Mizzou beat an overrated Illinois.

Sorry but I do feel they have a good conference this year, but just not as good as the SEC. Period.

The SEC isn't a "team".

The Big12 is definitely looking better- top to bottom. Anyone who can't see that...

The SEC just cannibalizes itself. It's still better than the Big 12.
Yeah, that's it cause the other conferences don't play each other.

Next.

I have been saying for a while that the Big-12 is better this season. Just look at the QB play. The 10 rated passer in the Big-12 has a higher rating that the top rated passer in the SEC.

The top of the Big-12 at least is much stronger than the top of the SEC.

It's funny as people take something like this personal. That makes no sense. Why get so worked up over the fact that this season the Big-12 is the overall toughest conference?

Exactly. Lets not make irrational statements.

People need to stop looking, and stop trying to find reasons and excuses for other conferences to be considered better than the SEC. It just will not be true no matter how hard it is lobbied for. The SEC holds the powers of college football. All other conferences hold "good" teams. And the funny thing is that everybody knows it, some just try to deny it.

Accept it. Embrace it. Come to terms with it. Then love it.

What are the signature wins by the SEC? Clemson, and ASU?

One need look no further than the very polls we were using to tout 5 SEC teams in the top ten a couple of weeks ago...before all that cannibalism started.

So is it the Big12's fault that the only SEC team they've played this year is too pitiful to be counted as a sig win? Think about that.
