Softball Announces 2018 full schedule
Posted on 10/18/17 at 4:08 pm

LINK
SEC home slate:
Auburn
Ole Miss
A&M
Arkansas
SEC away slate:
Kentucky
Missouri
Tennessee
Florida
Auburn is our first SEC series
Some notable match ups to watch OOC:
Oregon
UCLA
Baylor
Florida Alantic
BYU
Oregon State
*All of these teams were ranked a bit last season at some point
Season Starts February 8
Touch road schedule in the SEC, we should win or sweep every home series
Only series we should lose is Florida and Tennessee
I don't see A&M the same after losing their brilliant hitting coach
Every year under Torina we have played a top 10 schedule, this year should be the same facing 22 teams who appeared in the NCAA tournament

Hoping Oregon brings their cheerleaders.

The players themselves should suffice.

You would have to go to Palm Springs to see them.

I disagree on the fact that we should sweep all of our home series. Auburn lost some players, but they’re still a good team. They return both of their top pitchers, yes they lost Carlee Wallace and Kasey Cooper, but they are just as unproven as LSU. Ole Miss is still a team that SWEPT us last year and they return almost all their team. Texas A&M went to the WCWS last year and lost 0% of starting production. Gerry Glasco is a very good hitting coach, but if you look at A&M’s hitting numbers before Glasco, they’re just as good. I think LSU can win all of these series, but it’s not certain. However, when Hoover and Walljasper are on, they are tough to beat!
I,personally, really like the way the schedule is this year. In the early part of the year we can allow our young team to get confidence, something both Doyle and Springfield both struggled with last year. Then we have the Mary Nutter Classic where we play UCLA, Oregon, and Fresno State. With UCLA and Oregon (both WCWS teams that return a lot of players), we can measure where the is.
The month of April is brutal for LSU as we play Ole Miss, @Tennessee, Texas A&M, And @Florida. All of these team went deep in the postseason last year and return the majority of their teams. This is where we need our 3 super sophomores (Doyle, Springfield, Andrews, maybe even Gorsuch) to play well and use there confidence they gained from earlier in the year.
Wow! I’m so excited for the 2018 season. I will miss Jaquan and Landry (still miss Bell, Kloss, and Simmons), but I am so excited to see these youngsters grow up and get better!

Mike Smith teams always have a lot of turnover. Their top 3 in RBIs are all gone, only one by graduation. Two of those three players hit walkoffs to beat us last year.
Plus Mowatt left this week to go to Arizona.

Glasco got hired away by Auburn. They still should be loaded hitting anyway.

How do you guys think the lineup will look come February? This is just my guess:
Lineup:
1.) Griggs CF
2.) Andrews LF
3.) Doyle 1B
4.) Springfield DH
5.) Schulte 2B?
6.)Caccamise C?
7.) Sanchez 3B
8.) Serrett SS
9.) Antoine RF
Pitching:
1A: Allie Walljasper
1B: Carley Hoover
Gorsuch, Sunseri
Analysis:
This has been the hardest lineup to predict in the last 5 years. 6 of the 9 “starters” in my lineup are underclassmen. And Sanchez only became a regular last year so truly 7 of the 9. I have no clue about the 5 and 6 hole. Schulte, Caccamise, And Schlattman all could go there but I have no clue what Coach Torina will do. I think the rest of the lineup (not the order) is pretty much set. Griggs and Andrews at the top. They are our most consistent players from last year. Sanchez and Serrett in the 7 and 8 hole. Sanchez can be such a good player, but last year her health held her back. In the final game against Oregon and through the season, she showed glimpses of how good she can be. I feel like Serrett is And always has been suited for the 8 hole. Her defense is excellent and her offense is good. But last year as our offense struggled, Coach Torina was moving her higher in the lineup, like in the 6 hole. I think in the 8 hole, Serrett can be confident and not press. We’ve all seen Serrett be a good hitter, this year I think she can get back up to .320 - .330 Batting average. Doyle and Springfield are great they just need some tweaks in their swings and Confidence. Springfield struggled pretty much the whole year and still hit 12 homeruns, I think they’ll be considerably better this year. Lastly is Antoine. She’s a freshmen, but she is just too good to stay out of the lineup. I think she’ll be a great 4 year starter and hopefully another all American (knocks on wood). I still have questions about the rest of the lineup. Will Torina let Sunseri hit (I was watching one of her PGF games and she hit 2 bombs with ease)? I know the SEC is way different than PGF, but I think she can be a good hitter. Will Torina start Bourg or Thornhill? I feel like Torina trust players like Boirg and Thornhill And that’s why they’re always in the lineup to start the year. How will the transfers look? Each year I feel as if some player comes outta nowhere and has a good year for us. Last year the talk was all about Dawson, Doyle and Springfield coming in and Aaliyah Andrews just surprised us all with how good she was and really did a great job. The year before it was Sandra Simmons. Who will it be this year?
Now on to pitching. Our two seniors have been absolutely excellent, but I’m excited to see them improve. Allie Walljasper is just excellent. She’s our rock. I absolutely love her just because she’s so consistent. I know when she goes out there, we will have a great chance to win. My question is Carley Hoover. Don’t get me wrong, Carley Hoover is Excellent, but I want to see her take it another level. Each year we talk about improved control, but we haven’t really seen it. I want to see her healthy and consistently having control. We all know that when Hoover is on, she’s almost unstoppable. I would also like to see her develop her change up (does she even have a change up? I actually don’t know). And I would just like to see improvement from Gorsuch. In that South Carolina game, she showed us that she can be very good. And I just wanna see Sunseri pitch. I’m excited about her coming to LSU. I want to see her excel.
I’m so sorry for the long posts, but I’m just so excited. Please tell what y’all think about the team!

I totally agree with everything you said, but Ole Miss still has that fiery little pitcher who is so good. They also still have their two All Americans in Cox and Becker. Ole Miss is a great defense team too, so it should i a really good series.

I definitely will be going to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic this year. Anyone else going?

If you're going for one team it's a ripoff but if you're floating around watching games it's a good deal. There's like 30 teams playing from 10 am to 11 pm.

I said win or sweep
We will not sweep every SEC, its rare for any team to sweep every conference opponent

From what I see from fall practices, Caccamise is your #1 catcher. She is excellent defensively and has a lot of tools to be successful offensively.
Everyone needs to keep an eye out on Schlattman, she has really surprised me so far. She is capable of bein a middle of the lineup hitter, a lot of power. She has seen reps at catcher.
Either schulte and schlattman will play 2B
I don't see Thornhill as a starter, she will see time early this season like everyone else. Unfortunately we have players way in front of her.
I am curious how a much healthier Sanchez will perform now.
There are currently tweaks in how the offense is run now. Leftwich and Dobson are very detailed focused on the individual this fall
Can't comment on pitchers now since I have yet to see them.
There was a scrimmage tonight but was unable to attend so if someone went, please update what you saw

Even if it’s all day that’s a little excessive. Either way I will be attending, however my 4 and 3 year old daughters have the attention span of barely one game.

Mary Nutter Classic has a lot of elite teams, the best of the best will be there.

Should be a fun year again! Let's make it 4 years in a row to get to OKC and win the whole thing this time.

Three or four teams within the last month tried to report OU's recruiting to the NCAA. Their recruiting definitely is ridiculously good now. They usually have half of the top 10 players always committed to them
