I have zero understanding why people subscribe to Dish or DirectTV. Is it ridiculously cheap or what? Get Hulu or YouTube.

We tried. My trophy wife couldn’t find all the channels she watches. Had to stick with Dish.

I have DirecTV at my home in Cheyenne. I also had DirecTV at my old home in Denver. In Denver, they carried the local channels. In Cheyenne, they don’t carry the local channels. So, I’ve been using a digital antenna for the last two years. It works just fine.
By the way, if you want to blame someone for the dispute, don’t blame DirecTV, blame their owners, AT&T. When DirecTV was independent, there was never a problem like this. As soon as AT&T took over, they started picking fights with providers. They first targeted the NBC affiliate, then they after the regional sports network and others. They’ve been doing this for the entire time they’ve owned DirecTV.

I'm about to pull the plug on Directv and go with YouTubeTV. Been with Directv for 25 years!

I'm about to do this as well. I have been with DirecTV for 13 years, but when I first signed up it made more sense because it was cheaper than Cox, and streaming options didn't exist yet.

I'm having a hard time justifying paying 160/month with all the taxes and fees, when Youtube TV has all the channels I watch anyway for 90/month.

Plus, I haven't been able to watch any of the PGA tour coverage for the last few months because of CBS not being available due to contract dispute.

It's absolute bullshite.

Man, y'all really have no idea how this works. DirecTV isn't the problem. It's the programmers that own the channels. The contracts come up for renewal every few years, charged per subscriber to whoever your provider is (DirecTV, Dish, & even the streaming providers). Their rates charged to them go up significantly each time the contract is renewed. For example, last year ESPN wanted to raise their Dish contract by a BILLION dollars. So Dish is left to pay them, and then raise their subscibers rates, which subscribers will also bitch about. Or try to negotiate with the progammer, in this case ESPN, to try and get a lower rate. This sometimes results in a blackout if a new agreement isn't reached when the current contract expires.

How do I know this? I work for an ISP that also offered TV/cable service at one time. I negotiationed some of our contracts. We ended up just getting out of that line of business completely because it just wasn't worth it anymore. The last rates I have are from 2018 but even back then we were paying around $14 per subscriber for ABC and all of the ESPN channels. We're talking about only 8 channels. I'd hate to know what it is now.

Sure, streaming services like YouTube TV, Hulu, and Fubo are currently better options but they will eventually run into the same issues as they have to renew contracts with the providers.

So when ESPN comes to Dish or DirecTV asking for a billion increase over what they've been paying them the last couple of years, you expect Dish or DirecTV to just eat that cost without increasing their subscriber's rates or trying to negotiate a better deal with ESPN?

Just sign up for YouTube TV and be done with it. Did year ago and couldn’t be happier. Hulu is woke waste and DirecTV is crap.

I presume her trophy was not for "Most Intelligent".
