So of all the Junior defections for the NFL Draft...

...the Tigers only had 2 go in the first round? Is it just me or does that seem odd for as many as we had declare? How many are expected in the 2nd Round? Why would so many players want to leave knowing they won't be 1st or 2nd round picks and coming back would allow you to improve your stock and have a chance to win the NC?

New rookie wage scale. Less premium on being a high draft pick, more premium on simply being drafted with a chance to make a roster spot.

Its been in effect since the new CBA. Can Newton class was the first crop of rooks with the new pay scale IIRC

And just because a player isn't taken in the first round, doesn't mean he won't get paid. The decision basically comes down to whether the player thinks he can improve his draft stock with another year in college, and whether that improvement will make up for (or exceed) one year's salary. If the answer to those questions is no, the player goes to the draft. If yes, stay in college.

Not everyone leaves early because they expect to be a high pick.
Many struggle in school, have kids to support, or were 4th year juniors. Guys like Ford and Ware knew that they were getting fewer snaps due to the way backs are rotated. Thus they probably would not increase their stock if they stayed.
