Hold on sport. LSU MBA program top 10?. Not even close. I have children who just graduated Harvard MBA and NYU stern MBA, both with engineering degrees from Columbia University in the city of New York. I know engineering and MBA programs and LSU's aren't in the same ball park.

Just one benchmark for comparison:

Columbia endowment 8.1 billion
LSU endowment 640 million
Harvard Business school endowment 2.7 Billion
LSU Ourso Business school endowment : can't even find it

Hopefully your children didn't learn too much from their father if you think anyone in this thread is trying to compare the MBA from LSU against one from Harvard.

However, what stands true is that the return on investment for a LSU degree is one of the best in the nation. LSU graduates are among the best in the country with starting salaries of around $48,000 per year, which puts LSU’s graduates 33rd overall among public research universities (only trails Texas A&M, Florida, & Missouri in the SEC & we're in the top half of the Big 10). Furthermore, the mid-career earnings of LSU graduates rank among the best in the country at around $83,200.

LSU also provides students with a great start to their careers by helping to ensure they graduate with little-to-no debt. The national average for students finishing college with debt is 72 percent, while only about 35 percent of LSU graduates finish with debt.

“LSU’s tuition is 15 percent below our Southern peers, and our students carry 27 percent less debt than the national average for public institutions. On top of that, our students earn higher beginning and mid-career salaries than the vast majority of southern research universities and more than half of the Big Ten institutions,” said Alexander. “In other words, LSU students pay affordable tuition, accrue less debt and make higher salaries than many of their peers, allowing them to start their professional lives on the right foot.”

I'm sure it's lovely to attend Harvard but is having a starting salary of $55,300 worth the $250,000 a student may have in debt?

ETA Sounds like were doing less with more

Mark Emmert believed, correctly, that schools with winning programs were able to appeal to a wider base of students. I know several of my son's friends, all smart academic kids, were considering Bama only because of the national attention the football program receives.

I did a paper last year on this type of phenomenon. A Harvard professor researched the true theory. When a team has athletic success, application numbers go up, and the quality of student that applies goes up as well.

Both Columbia grads had only 20k in debt when graduated. Harvard MBA had $160k debt but paid off by new employer via signing bonus. NYU Stern MBA tuition was paid entirely by employer...$155K. Go figure that ROI. Now, an education is only as good as what you make of it so LSU grads who are well grounded, hard working and smart will do every bit as well as those with the pedigree.

To bring it home, comparing LSU business school to Harvard's or NYU Stern's is like comparing LSU football to Columbia's. Think about those two on the same field? Columbia did have a great Baseball team last year but exited the NCAA playoffs in the first round.

There is nothing wrong with preaching the fun aspect of college! NOTHING! This is the time in those kids life when they should be having fun. If they also get to go to a good school and don't have to take on a lot of debt....icing on the cake! It worked for me! I say...keep recruiting this way and Geaux Tigers! As for smart kids going to Bama....that's laughable!

FWB / Destin

LSU has recruited some excellent talent from the Panhandle (BTW to the person questioning the 5 hrs from Baton Rouge: Pensacola is even closer than FWB/Destin. I believe it's 3-4 hours away). Louis Williams (football 1998-2000)is from Ft. Walton Beach. Nolan Cain (from Tate High School north of Pensacola), the current Coordinator of Baseball Operations for LSU, played baseball (pitcher) at LSU from 2006-2009. This only names two-there are many more recruited for sports. I know of a bunch of people in the Mobile Area and the Florida Panhandle who went to LSU because of Academics. There is one here in Merritt Island I know who graduated from LSU though he could have attended much closer--he was not an athlete, but got his degree in Accounting (or similar).

Not in Engineering. LSU and Auburn wipe the floor with Alabama in Engineering. Bama is more of a Liberal Arts school........

You might want to emphasize the word "liberal" in your post. That it is...

I was in Mass Communications and Film before moving from West Point, MS, to Mobile to attend the University of South Alabama and earn my Ph.D. there. That Department was top-notch and seems to remain so today. Bama has some stellar programs (other than sports) and has a beautiful campus. They didn't, however, appreciate the LSU tag on the front of my truck...

i went to LSU from Ga, paid less in tuition than I would have at Emory or ga tech, and will make more money than the majority of people that graduate from those schools.

If Nationally televised - In the confines of my home in front of my HD65 Big Screen

If I have to leave the house, I go to Anglers on the Island. Normally have a good turn out of Tiger Fans

I live in Gulf Breeze. Pensacola has a huge base of LSU fans. Very successful one but it's a hike from where I am and the average person there is 50+. A load of 60-70 year olds at that watch party.

I've been trying to get a satellite watch party on Pensacola beach but I can't really get anyone to work with me and be supportive.

I got an email the other day from the LSU Alumni group getting a poll on starting a Fort Walton/Destin group. They used to have one there years ago and it was AWESOME!! The guy who ran it ended up having twins and it fell apart after that.

I typically watch games at my house or my friends house. Haven't found anywhere terribly appealing. I hear that the bowling alley near the mall has a good LSU bar, but I've never checked it out. You trying to set up on the beach or go to a bar out there?
