Sorry to bust up your thread, but Nick Saban would never have been stupid enough to fake a field goal on 4th and 16

But yet he was dumb enough to call a Double Reverse Pass with a WR inside the red zone in "the game of the century that didn't count".

Losing in November with terrible coaching decisions is not something new for Saban. Saban just gets more opportunities than others to make up for his blunders due to media love and biased scheduling.

I think Saban was the reason they lost that game.

Well...he was. Either he made that horrific call himself- or he failed to overrule the nimrod who did.

Either way, it's his.

Saban is just stupid enough to try a 57 yard FG with a untested kicker only to have the try run back down his throat and cost his team the SEC title.

Not to mention his other stupid decisions in that classic clusterfrick put on my his football team.

But Saban says he makes 60 yarders in practice and it isn't his fault because he told the kicking team to cover the kick in case the guy missed it.

What Saban did was painfully dumb. A Field goal unit is full of lumbering dudes NOT intended to cover kick returns. Basically, that kick gets caught and its game over. It would be one thing if the kicker just came up short on a 45 yarder but that shite was just stupid

Another favorite is losing last November to aTm by not running Lacy inside the five yard line...

FOUR TIMES

But it's Ok. The man is a genius. He got to beat Mizz and Tenn from the East (second and third to last teams) while LSU and aTm got to "lose out" while playing USCe and UF.

Only a genius would know you can blow a big home game every year but still play for a title.

Plus he lobbied for the 1 second only to have it shoved down his throat.
No one, and I mean no one, else gets that 1 second. I have never, ever seen 1 second put back on the clock determined by when the runners foot touched out of bounds.

I've never seen it either. Most coaches just go into OT. But not that egotistical ahole.

I was cracking up when Auburn ran it back.

I also wanted to see AJ cry. Then I wanted to see Lil Nicky hug him and pat his butt telling him it would all be okay. They failed me.

Saban's call was pure arrogance. He threw his kicker under the bus. It will take people a long time to forget; it may be THE call that defines his career.

Saban has as many SEC titles with Bama as Les has had with LSU since Saban started at Bama.

Can you really claim "dynasty" with only two Conference Championships?

It seems like Auburn was able to return the kick with ease. I can't tell from the camera angle on the TV game - but did Alabama's FG unit just not initially pursue the kick? I would call that a severe coaching error! Esp. since Auburn tried to return a FG earlier in the game.

That was absolutely the correct call.

It's a huge game, it's obvious the other team can score on you, You're on the road so you do everything you can to avoid overtime, especially on the road.

It's obvious his kicker has the leg and accuracy to make it.
The odds of a block are pretty low. Even if they do block it the odds the other team will recover are low. And even if they do recover the odds of them running it all the way back are even lower.

You have a decent shot of making it and ending the game. The odds of it landing in the endzone are low, The odds of them catching it in the endzone are low, and the odds of them running out and getting anywhere are as low as it gets. Overall the odds of them returning it with no time on the clock are like a million to one. How do I know? Tell me how many times it's been done in NCAA history?

The only bone headed move would to be not and try that kick.

Now let's discuss Les calling a Fake on 4th and 12.

OBJ returned one earlier this year, didn't he?

No you don't. Not with a kicker that's only attempted 2 FGs before that in his career and has only made a 20 yarder.

Everything leading up to that kick was boneheaded as well. Bypassing the opportunity to go up by 2 scores with a FG, bonheaded. Running 2 draws before the FG attempt, when you have a heisman candidate for a QB, boneheaded. Attempting a 57 yarder instead of heaving it to the endzone, bonheaded. Saban's indecisiveness about what to do in the final minute was absolutely bonheaded.

How many college games are won on walk off 57 yarders?

Florida did get an extra second in the 1989 game that allowed them to kick the game winning FG in Tiger Stadium. However, that was before QBs could legally spike the ball, and so the question was whether the ball crossed the sideline before time ran out. No replay in those days, just a officials conference that went against us.

Man, that 1989 team was snake-bit.

Crazy.

How many are lost with no time on the clock on a missed FG attempt?

He had nothing realistic to lose if he misses. No way you don't take that kick.

Tell me again how many times in NCAA history has that ever happened? Beckham made it what 4? IN the HISTORY of the game?

Probably close to the same that are won.

Except the game.

Because most coaches aren't dumb enough to trot out inexperienced kickers to attempt 57 yarders.

For you, at what point would it be stupid to attempt a FG? 60 yards? 65 yards? 70 yards?

Oh yeah, Nick was good for a loss to an big underdog team at least every other year at LSU. Heck, he only had one good year while in Baton Rouge.

As for never manning up and taking the blame, he has proven that he absolutely will throw anyone under the bus before taking the blame for a loss on himself. He has singled out individual players as well as specific staff members on occasion. He is lucky that he is a winner because he would have gotten called out on that crap long ago if he had a half a dozen more losses to blame away.

THIS is one of the reasons why I truly can't fathom why players would chose Nick over Les. It's so obvious that Nick has absolutely no respect for those around him while Les will always take the heat away from his staff or players.

Before Saban gets death threats like the field goal kicker, who missed 2 field goals and had 1 blocked, I suggest he take a recruiting trip to Austin, Texas to get his own Five Star butt recruited by Texas and have them throw in a few oil wells for good measure.

The BS stories he tells his fans that he's not going anywhere just before he leaves for that place for more money causes me to think he deserves to be a Five Star BS kicker with size 18D big arse, BS kicking cowboy boots.
