So do we deem the 'players only' meeting a success?

I remember last week the Rant was deriding the players only meeting.

It meant chaos.

It meant Miles had lost control.

It meant the season was done and would end up 4-7.

They looked extremely thrilled after the 50 yard FG. I hadn't seen the players that happy all season.

bc of the youth there's not a lot of on the field leaders. i think it was a good idea. starting 0-2 in SEC is something that never happened under Miles. so i'm glad the players took some ownership and came together to realize the season wasn't lost.

miles' teams in the past have lost their intensity once some of their goals have been dashed (i.e. losing to bama).

sometimes a re-direct from peers is a good thing. they didn't invent the players only mtg and its a common thing.

I was happy that della whodoyasay got to play the hero after missing that extra point.

Yes it worked. Bottom line is LSU won.

Some of those previous teams clearly had under performances from several players.

If the metric is W/L, then of course.

If the metric is performance on the field, I wouldn't agree at all. If anything, we regressed to a certain extent - aside of LF7's monster game and 3rd and "California" ( ) conversion, where did we improve? Our QB still can't/didn't make the throws we needed, O-Line couldn't hold the UF defense and our special teams had the worst outting probably in the last 5 years.

Not trying to rain on LSU's parade, but where did we benefit?

One bright point was our defense.....but then again, UF's offense a la JDriskel is turrible anyway.

i don't think anyone said that. I doubt people thought we would just cancel a game over the meeting.

You actually make a good point; however, I think the point of this thread is to address the mental state of the players and them owning the responsibility of their "play" on the field.....the coaches can only do so much, at some point the players have to know that they must execute and have discipline........if the players don't hold themselves accountable to their "on-the-field" performance, there's nothing ANY coach can do.......

Meh...maybe....I'm not sure there is a direct correlation between the meeting and the win but it certainly couldn't have hurt.
Somebody need to step up on this team and start grabbing facemasks and getting in people's shite.

No, he does not. The offensive line was clearly blocking the Florida front seven better than they had. The running game was obviously improved. Defense stepped up BIG TIME. Take away the special team miscues and the game is not even close.

You can only play the team in front of you, not the previous or the next.

That post is typical south Louisiana negative self-loathing. It is self-destructive.

Well again, it's not like Florida's offense is lighting the world on fire either......i think that's the point he was trying to make...

While I agree this is true, what is being asked is - "was the players only meeting a success" so it really depends on what barometer you are using as success? Better play? W/L? More yards? Giving up less yards? etc etc.

The defense in particular seemed to have had some motivation. They just looked fired up.
