Is a flukey inside the park grand slam? I'm happy for the win but this is concerning.

shut up.

you do realize that pitcher was CUSA pitcher of the year hand had the second most strikeouts in the country right?

Think he had 106 IP with 146 SO or something like that coming into last night....

Its not like we were going against some weekday rag arm from ITT Tech

I love people pretending our woeful postseason offense hasn't been an issue over the years.

didn't LSU get a hit after the double/hr anyway? At least one of the runs would have scored anyway.

It's not woeful if you win.

The opponent managed less, resulting in a victory.

You can't make sweeping assumptions about a baseball team off of one game. This team has proven they can hit the best arms in the country so I'm not worried that they had one off game.

Well, we would of had men on second and third one out. Next batter walked then the next one singled would of been 4 runs anyway. And then we had a player thrown out at home due to a perfect relay.

Stop, that kinda kills the notion that lsu is struggling in the postseason at the plate.

Chris Reid singled behind Deichmann so we would've still scored 4 runs regardless of that "flukey," inside-the-park grand salami.

It's strange that when we got beat 1-0 by UF in Hoover during the SEC Tournament Semis, no one talked about Florida getting lucky on a flukey double down the line on an absolutely well-executed low-in-the-zone 2-strike, down-in-the-count fastball from Gilbert?

No, they talked about how Florida "finally outlasted," LSU.

Now it's tournament time and we beat a conference pitcher of the Year and a team whose absolute strength is its pitching staff (just like UF) and we still got ahold of them for the big inning, as well as saw our 7-8 hole hitters get 4 hits and our team as a whole draw what...8 or 9 walks?

Their starter was 2nd in the nation in K's and was the CUSA POY, had almost double the K's as Lange did in only slightly more IP. Yet we still got to them for a big inning and almost plated an insurance run later save for an absolutely well-executed laserbeam of a relay throw to home to gun out our fastest baserunner at the plate in a bang-bang play off-you guessed it-a double by our 8 hole hitter whose about 15 points above the Mendoza line facing RHP from the right side for the 2nd game all year.

I say all that to say all this: You should unconcern yourself with what you just expressed concern over.

At this point in the season, it's all about Al Davis' quote: "Just win, baby!"

Had the ball not rolled under a bench, a bit of a fluke in and of itself, that hit would have cleared the bases (i.e. scored 3 runs). That would have been enough to win. Nothing wrong with scoring 3 runs when the opposition only scores 2 (and it doesn't matter in what inning you get them).

I prefer when we defend our team rather than criticize them. Thanks, well said.

I know that a postseason win is a postseason win. However, the ghosts of postseason disappearing acts (Stony Brook says hello) won't be gone until the Tigers make a deep run in Omaha. The fact is, the bats have been timely enough in all but one case, but haven't been consistent in the postseason outside of the State and Utah Valley games.

As for the Rice pitcher, we all understand that he is really good. Our boys are going to face really good to great pitching from here on out. This is the postseason and in college baseball's current setup, the team's that are getting here have to have competent pitching and defense. With the current balls and bats, you can't simply rely on offense to carry you like the old days.

We aren't far off, though. The clutch hitting has been there when we needed it in all but the UF game, and that is vital to making a run. Our staff is also looking really sharp right now. Iron out the errors from the SEC Tourney and come up with hits across more innings, and we really have a legit shot at another title.
