I believe it was 1997. I attended the LSU Signing Day Bash, and Jerry Dinardo was just casually roaming the room, with 2 cell phones going full blast. There was an unoccupied folding chair directly beside me...and I could not believe it, but he sat right beside me. I asked him "Coach, how's it going?"...he had one cell ring at that moment, and he politely pointed at the phone....I was stone cold silent. He put his hand to his forehead, rubbed it, and hung up. He then said "We just lost Travis Minor."

Cool story, but I didn't realize we were even a longshot for Minor.

They made an announcement that he was on the phone with Travis. The entire field house exploded into the “LSU” chant. Thought for sure that would flip him, but it didn’t.

I was there as well along with a couple of friends. I remember watching VHS highlight tape on tube televisions that were sitting on metal folding chairs. I think there were only (2) tvs. Dinardo walking around the room like any other fan. Haha! Had jambalaya for lunch. Oh, and based on highlight film alone, we all thought Thomas Dunson was the next Mike Singletary.

is anyone claiming otherwise? Minor was a freshman when Faulk was a senior so clearly he would've been a good get for us.

I started going in 2000 when it was in the atrium downtown. I was only 20 but they gave me an arm band anyway. God damn we pounded some beers those first few years. I went every year until it moved to the casino. Actually I went the first year it was there but I just gambled until a buddy came down with an extra ticket and went up to listen to Les speak.

Another story about the Travis Minor recruitment.

DiNardo sat in the family’s living room. On the coffee table was a camera. Gerry asked Travis if he enjoyed photography, and he replied “No, the camera is on the table because Bobby Bowden visited last night, and my family wanted to take pictures with him”.

DiNardo knew he lost Travis Minor when no one asked him to take pictures with his family.

To this day, Travis Minor is the best high school running back I have ever seen.

He was so good I vividly still remember him even tho I was only 10-12 years old when he pummeled St Amant every time he played us.

And he wasn't even the best running back in the state that year

That honor goes to his future Florida State teammate, Javon Walker.
