That's an absurd statement, especially in 2005

Yeh I love Shaq but Saban left for probably the best coaching offer ever

Saban's ego, there was no way he was not going to try the NFL. LSU ought to be lucky he stayed as long as he did, he was getting NFL overtures every year at LSU and even towards the end of his Mich St career.

I'm still surprised he hasn't wanted one more shot in NFL.

Shaq, if you were a fried seafood platter, would you eat yourself? It's a simple question.

LSU was always and always will be a stepping stone for Saban. It was controversy every year he was here. The time was right, and he took the opportunity.

saban was eventually going to try his hand at the NFL, so even if we outbid the Dolphins then, the next season someone else comes calling with a more ridiculous offer.

Money had absolutely nothing to do with Saban leaving.

The real question should be: did LSU really turndown talks with Saban when he wanted out of the Miami job?

if true, that's where (if anywhere) LSU fricked up. But, seriously, who would have predicted the success Saban has had at Alabama?

Yes. You don't fire a coach coming off of a 11-2 season to hire one that jilted you 2 years ago

Naw, the NFL called and Saban left. He would not have left if it had been any other college.

He was going to the NFL. Nothing we could have done would have prevented that. I don't think it had anything to do with the money.
