Chances this backfires?

Like how? We were in decline and facing the real possibility of finishing with a losing record this season after many picked us to win or strongly compete for a national championship. This has been brewing over the last few seasons, our program had maxed out under Miles.

I'd say likely.

Outside opinion - it's the right move, maybe the timing was a little odd. The only risk it backfires is if LSU doesn't have the patience to give whoever you hire time to build his program. Even if you get Jimbo or Herman, it may not be an overnight march to the playoff. If you don't have patience, and turn into a coach-churning place like Tennessee - that's the risk.

Fit for the program is also important. Someone may be a great coach, but if they don't fit your school, it'll never be as successful as it should.

Good luck!

Zero.

Even if it got worse, Miles needed to be fired and he needed to be fired now.

I bet Tennessee said "zero" also.

Herman isn't coming here now. He's going to look over the landscape and LSU may not be the most attractive job to him.

There are no guarantees when you fire a coach.

if by backfire, do you mean less than 5-3/4-4 in the sec? cause that's where we're at.

They said the EXACT same thing when Dinardo was let go. Truth

You're in one of two camps in life. You're a risk taker or a settler. Settlers don't go anywhere. They settle.

Exactly but knowing we have a shot to win the game as well. We've lost the excitement to LSU football. We should be talked about every season with the likes of Bama, FSU, and OSU.

The chances are 100% that keeping Miles last November backfired.

You are more likely to frick up a coaching search and hire you are to get it right. This is a fact that isn't arguable. Look at top programs and coaching changes.

Tennessee doesn't and never had the talent pool we have in there backyard. A lot more work has to go into Tennessee.

Absolutely. You know what you've got with Miles. 8 to 10 wins per year pretty consistently. Tennessee, Texas and USC come to mind when you think about firings blowing up in your face. But you never know what happens until you take the chance.

We were headed for a 5 or 6 win season. Hard to backfire from that

Nothing worth doing in life is free of risk. This was the right move. Our situation may get worse, for a time, but we were already going in the wrong direction.

We just have to hope for the best.

It can't possibly get worse. So 0% chance of backfire

Yes, it can.

The thing is the only way for things to get better is to take a risk like this. But to think it can't get worse is short-sighted.

Dude, we hired a great coach when we fired Cholly Mac.

Then his plane went down
