Everybody's OL is a WIP.

We had 3 starters returning from most accounts a functional OL in '16. Are you really suggesting a team's OL can't transition from one season to the next unless they have more than 3 starters returning?

KJ got a lot of grief in '16. Most was deserved. But by season's end, he had become a solid LT. He plays worse now than he did at his worst in '16. How is that explained? Is he playing hurt?

I don't know about all that but for a team replacing 3 starters on the interior of the line and returning a part-time starter on the right end, this clearly is a team trying to figure out how to play together, as a unit, 5 games into the season.

We lost Pocic, Boutte and Maea from the starting 5. Two returners and one of them is learning the critical QB of the line at center.

KJ was the weak link on last year's unit. He is the most experienced OL. He will be going through police training this time next year and not playing in the league, enough said.

Forgive me, but you've lost your fricking mind.

This is really not that complicated, or at least it wasn't until O got here

Pretty easy to figure it the frick out that it is a work in progress. That's all I need to know. I don't need to look at anybody else's teams to see that the we don't have an "experienced" line despite the ranking star gazers.

If they suck at their new position, move them back...because they sure as hell didn't suck then. Whatever it is, it's not working. That's on O, canada, and grimes

And you need to compare that to other schools. Ive got a feeling that's very normal.

Maybe oh maybe it could be our new HC that has a 30% win pct???

This is not the whole story in '16. I think Toby beat out Teuhema at RT until Toby was hurt in like game 3 or so. Teuhema replaced Boutte at RG until Toby was hurt.

KJ was playing well through the end of last season. He was no longer a "weak link."

Similar could be said about State's OL and Troy's OL.

As long as there are those who think depth, talent, experience, Canada, Aranda, etc are the source of our football woes the real sOurce Of it can find cOver.

Just for argument sake we have this:

Clapp 4 star guard - playing center (does this make him a 4 star center?)

Malone 3 star tackle - he has experience

Ingram - no experience

I mean we aren't young and starting 5 freshman OL but we aren't an experienced group of starters either. Meet in the middle

Even if that's true, they are not playing average. That's really what all this boils down to...miss st and troy.

I think the problem last year was that our offensive line had better stats than they showed because of LF7. He could make a bad line look good. I don't think that fact can be dismissed. Even with a tackle like Malone.

Regardless, Maea started 9 games at RT and he only replaced Boutte in Gm 2 because he was suspended. Maea was a critical piece of our OL last year and is one of the biggest reasons why our line is suffering this year. That's the biggest difference between last season and this one, we don't have any experienced lineman that could be inserted like we had when we had suspension/injury...or in this case a last minute transfer.

On page 2 of previous thread on this subject, I asked a question and you supplied the requested info for OL. Kudos.

Although I believe every problem is multifactoral, it is hard to argue the data you present.

Clapp 5 starts at C; 12 starts LG, 11 starts RG
Ingram 4 starts RG; played in 5 games
Charles 2 starts RG/RT; played in 5 games
Weathersby 4 starts RT; 12 games in '15 (1 start RT) & 8 games in 16' (3 starts RT)
Cushenberry 0 starts; 0 snaps in '16, played in 3 games
Magee 0 starts; 3 games in '16 (no snap count), played in 4 games in '17
Savage 0 starts; 0 snaps in '16, played in 3 games in '17
Declaus 0 starts; played in 5 games

And how does that stack up against other teams in the SEC? How about against Syracuse and Troy?

Not necessarily. There are a lot of factors at play and certain players will translate to other positions better than others (for example, Ragnow at Arkansas).

Ingram - no experience

It’s unfortunate we have to start a freshmen but it’s not uncommon. missississppi State has a freshmen starting at RT and Syracuse has 2 starting on their OL.

This is another problem with people who don't really know football. A team can be full of great players and be a terrible team - (See LSU, 1999).

A team can be relatively light on talent, but be a good team, maybe bordering on great.

A couple weeks ago, someone posted a Link to an article that showed the large number of players who either transferred or dropped out over the last 4 years. I thought this was substantial at the time, and it must be a factor. Anyone recall this article? I believe it was from the Advocate, but not sure.

Nobody is making the case that we should have lost to Troy. You are arguing with yourself.

This topic is about whether LSU's talent and depth is on par with other SEC OL talent and depth. I'll say that my opinion is that it is not. And, it's as clear as day. Anyone who knows football and doesn't acknowledge it is being dishonest.

It doesn't mean Orgeron should have been hired. It doesn't mean that there aren't other problems. And, it doesn't excuse losses to Troy. But, it certainly contributed to the loss against Troy, and it is a major part of the reason for our offensive struggles.

I don't know why now...all of a sudden you people are surprised that the o-line sucks. It has been sucking for years. The veterans on the line were never good to begin with. Throw some freshmen in there and it just makes things worse. The biggest problem with this year's team is our defense is bad.

The problem with this is that you assume that a player's rating he received in high school cannot go up or down after he is in college. And you assume that the ratings are accurate for player to begin with. It's a fun exercise but not sure the high school ratings mean much once a player is in a program.
